JOB GOAL:To develop in each student an understanding of the principles of democracy and ideals upon which the U.S. was founded; to develop student's critical analysis of U.S. and world social, political, and economic events; to teach students how to exercise his/her civic rights and responsibilities associated with active citizenship in a democracy; to develop student's proficiency in the use of historical thinking skills and mastery of key concepts; to develop student's analysis of competing historical perspectives through primary and secondary sources to encourage students to build their own perspectives.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. Demonstrates currency in the curriculum.

A. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the core curriculum in History.

B. Frames curriculum around essential questions in History that provide opportunities for reasoning, logic, analysis and synthesis when planning units, lessons, and assessments.

C. Keeps current in the field of History and applies knowledge to the instructional program.

D.Contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the curriculum.

II. Conducts effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction

A. Effectively plans instruction and assessment in History and monitors student's understanding of the curriculum. Adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.

III.Manages the classroom environment and creates an atmosphere that is positive for student learning and involvement in History.

IV. Delivers instruction in History effectively.

A. Makes learning goals of History instruction clear to students and uses instructional techniques appropriate for teaching History.

B. Uses a variety of teaching strategies, including cooperative, peer and project-based learning; audio-visual presentations, lecture, discussions and inquiry, practice and application; and the teaching of others.

C.Uses questioning techniques appropriate to teaching History.

D. Evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.

V. Promotes and communicates high standards and expectations in History for student achievement.

VI. Promotes equity and appreciation of diversity and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.

A.Demonstrates an appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals.

VII. Fulfills all professional responsibilities

A. Cooperates in interactions with parents and receptive to their contributions.

B. Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district.

C.Exercises reflection on teaching and education and embraces the concept of continuous learning.

VIII. Completes any other duty or assignment as directed by the Principal or Coordinator: Social Studies
