The Nazareth Academy Social Studies Department is seeking applicants who are interested in a full-time position for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. The position would include a daily teaching schedule and other school supervision responsibilities. It is expected that Nazareth teachers set professional goals, collaborate in their academic departments, and use their talents and interests to become involved in student activities as coaches or club moderators and attendees at school events.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree (or higher)

  • History major

  • Strong willingness to work collaboratively

  • Currently valid Professional Educator License

Preferred Experience:

  • Teaching or student teaching at the high school level

  • Knowledge and experience with Google Suite apps for Education

  • Ability to use technology in instruction and for student learning

  • Familiarity with 1:1 iPad use in the classroom a plus

  • Commitment to student success

VIEW JOBS 4/12/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-11T00:00 The Academy at St. Joan of Arc (the Academy) seeks a Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher who is enthusiastic about being part of Catholic education innovation. The Academy will be breaking ground as the only independent Catholic elementary school on Chicago's North Shore. The school will open in the fall of 2019 at the site of St. Joan of Arc School (SJA), a parochial school which will close at the end of the 2018-19 academic year. With this change, the Academy seeks a Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher, who will also serve as the 7th Grade Homeroom Teacher, to be part of its founding team of faculty. The Academy is uniquely governed by an independent Board of Directors. The nine-member Board is comprised of current and former school parents, select leaders from outside the school with specific subject matter expertise and a representative from the Archdiocese of Chicago. At the heart of the Academy at St. Joan of Arc is the understanding of the importance of a curriculum that emphasizes both faith and reason. The Academy at St. Joan of Arc embraces a Christ-centered curriculum in a values-based environment structured on Catholic teachings. The Academy at St. Joan of Arc will provide a premier elementary school experience built around the way students worship, learn and live. It will offer upwards of 200 students a high-quality Catholic, values-based education. * Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required * Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and/or experience in instructional strategies for implementing grade-specific math programs for students; * Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students and parents; * A positive attitude, as well as an ability to collaborate well with colleagues; * A consistent and fair in approach to all students, parents, etc. while ensuring an appropriately disciplined positive environment; * Experience with web-based learning, particularly through the use of laptops, iPads and other technology in the classroom; * A passion for learning and sharing knowledge with others. * Primary Responsibilities * Cultivate a hunger for knowledge as well as encourage curiosity among students and engage them to learn; * Serve as the 7th Grade Homeroom Teacher, overseeing the students in daily class schedule and provide guidance as needed; * Know and use a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives; * Provide reports on student progress and maintain open communication with families and administration by communicating in a clear and supportive manner; * Demonstrate effective organizational skills including, but not limited to, lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments; * Utilize technology to promote learning, creativity and collaboration; * Demonstrate interest in promoting academic excellence and faith formation in a K-8 environment, including participation in Academy faculty meetings and school events; * Expand educational knowledge including through participation in in-services as well as other teaching training sessions, conferences, webinars, etc., in order to stay up to date on best practices to be implemented in the classroom.
