The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of our facility's Social Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that the medically related emotional and social needs of the resident are met/maintained on an individual basis.

  • Welcomes all new residents and families to the facility.

  • Identify medically-related social and emotional needs of the resident. Interview residents, or family members, as necessary, to obtain social history in a private setting.

  • Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of social care plans and resident assessments.

  • Develop a written plan of care for each resident that identifies social problems/needs of the resident and the goals to be accomplished for each problem/need identified.

  • Encourage the resident/family to participate in the development and review of his/her plan of care.

  • Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting such to the Administrator as required.

  • Assure that social service progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident's response to the service.

  • Refer resident/families to appropriate social service agencies when the facility does not provide the services or needs of the resident.

  • Review and develop a plan of correction for social service deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such to the Administrator.

  • Meet with administration, medical and nursing staff, as well as other related departments in planning social service programs and activities.

  • Others duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Administrator.

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a Bachelors Degree from an approved school of Social Work.

  • Must be a licensed social worker in the state of hire.

  • Must have, as a minimum, one (1) year social work experience in long-term care working directly with individuals.

For more information about El Paso Behavioral Health System, please visit our website at Job Requirements The Director of Social Services monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of social services delivered in the hospital, in accordance with accepted standards of practice, various regulatory agency guidelines, and El Paso Behavioral policies and procedures. Monitors and evaluates social services through periodic check of psychosocial assessments performed by hospital and allied health professional staff, monitoring the delivery of social services, monitoring multidisciplinary treatment team process; monitoring discharge planning and community resource referral. Assures that clinical services policies and procedures are kept current in areas relating to Social Services and that all governing and regulations standards are met. Education: Master's Degree from an accredited school of social work or related mental health field. Experience: Minimum of four (4) years' experience in psychiatric/mental health field; minimum of two (2) years' experience in advanced clinical/management supervision of clinical staff. Experience in patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities are required. Must have strong clinical skills and utilize sound clinical judgement. License: Appropriate state licensure in mental health required (LMSW, LCSW, or LPC preferred). Certification in supervision of interns is strongly preferred. Additional Requirements: A strong knowledge of JCAHO, HCFA, OSHA regulations, and patient rights standards and all other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities.
