This position is located within a National Forest. This position provides work direction for Youth Conservation Corps Enrollees. The incumbent operates as instructor and leader in conservation work projects for 5-10 enrollees.

Directs the work of a crew of 5-10 enrollees in the accomplishment of conservation work projects.

Instructs enrollees in job related tasks including the safe and efficient use of appropriate tools and equipment. Work projects include conservation and environmental related activities such as tree planting, thinning, trail maintenance, brushing, campground cleanup, and similar maintenance projects.

Provides advice and counsel to enrollees in work related problems and routine personal problems. Resolves complaints and refers disciplinary problems to next level supervisor.

Ensures that crews are properly equipped for conservation work duties. Submits requests for supplies and equipment.

Plans, coordinates, and schedules daily activities of enrollees. Make lesson plans for programmed work projects. Maintains records and makes required reports.

Is responsible for compliance with and enforcement of safe work practices. Actively supports the unit(s) safety and health programs and assures enrollees comply with all safety rules and regulations.

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.

GS-05: (1) One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-04 grade level.

Specialized experience is defined as: Group leader in community or natural resource program (resource conservation or environmental program); or counselor in a youth summer camp; instructor in a training program for the development of job skills; work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew; group activities leader in the Armed Services; aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities; or aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs. OR

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that (a) included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position; (b) included a major in social behavior, human behavior, or health care or; (c) was supplemented by experience in activities that afforded the opportunity to acquire and demonstrate the skills required by the position. (The supplementary experience may have been gained, for example, in part-time or summer employment, in volunteer social welfare or recreation programs, or in community organizations.) - OR

A combination of education and experience listed above.
