This vacancy is located at SCLHSA's St. Mary Behavioral Health Center located in Morgan City, LA. The incumbent will facilitate new clients through the screening and orientation to services process. The incumbent will conduct case management activities and assists licensed clinicians in completing the assessment process. The incumbent will interview clients to assess the need for referrals to outside agencies for additional resources. The incumbent will complete referrals to the proper sources when necessary. The incumbent will create and disseminate public relations information. The incumbent will assist clinic manager and licensed clinicians in evaluating existing programs and making necessary changes.

This vacancy is being announced as a Classified Position and will be filled as a Job Appointment that may transfer into a Probationary Appointment at a future date.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A baccalaureate degree plus two years of professional social services experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree.

Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows:

A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.

30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.

A baccalaureate degree in social work, sociology, psychology, behavioral science or human service counseling from an accredited institution will substitute for one year of experience.

Graduate training in social work, sociology, psychology, or human service counseling from an accredited institution will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

A master's degree in the above fields will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

Specialized college course work will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Positions that provide addictive disorder counseling services require certification or eligibility for certification as a Counselor in Training (CIT), or a current practice credential as a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC), Registered Addiction Counselor (RAC), or Licensed Addictive Counselor (LAC) issued by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA), or its successor, pursuant to the Addictive Disorders Practice Act, LA RS. 37.3386-3390.6

Positions that provide addictive disorder prevention services require certification or eligibility for certification as a Prevention Specialist in Training (PSIT), or a current practice credential as a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP), Registered Prevention Professional (RPP), Licensed Prevention Professional (LPP) issued by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA), or its successor, pursuant to the Addictive Disorders Practice Act, LA RS. 37.3386-3390.6

NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

NOTE:

The baccalaureate, graduate training, or master's degree in social work must be from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, 1701 Duke Street, Suite 200, Alexandria, VA 22314.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from the Professional Counselor job series by the absence of a master's degree and licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor or registration as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern.

Differs from the Social Service Counselor 2 by the presence of responsibility for specialized caseloads and/ or lead-worker duties.

Differs from Social Service Counselor 4-A by the absence of responsibility for assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of specialized programs.

Differs from Social Service Counselor 4-B by serving as a certified substance counselor.

Examples of Work

65% Facilitates new clients through the orientation process by providing information on clinic policies and the process of treatment.

  • Assist clients in completing initial paperwork necessary for evaluation.

  • Conducts case management activities by assisting the licensed clinicians with the assessment process.

  • Interviews clients to assess the need for referrals to outside agencies and completes referrals to the proper sources when necessary.

  • Assist in getting community resources and taking Medicaid applications.

  • Assists staff with the completion of consumer care requests.

  • Obtain information and records on clients regarding previous behavioral health treatment.

  • Provides emergency services to clients needing crisis intervention for self or family. Consults with appropriate staff, complete necessary forms, secure placement and transportation for clients needing hospitalization.

  • Participates in case staffing and helps determine recommendations for client placement.

  • Documents written reports to courts, probation officers, employees, schools, and case workers in regards to client's treatment recommendations.

25% Assist the clinic manager and licensed clinician in developing and designing new specialized programs for specific populations as needed.

  • Participates in quarterly quality assurance reviews and monitoring. May research records, conduct interviews or survey clients for performance improvement.

  • Creates and disseminates public relations information through outreach and participates in community prevention and outreach activities.

10% Attends meetings, workshops, trainings and seminars for continuing education purposes and professional enhancement and development.
