Purpose

This position offers an exciting opportunity for a junior researcher to gain hands-on experience in developmental cognitive neuroscience research through work involving both behavioral, physiological, fNIRS, and EEG data from preschoolers and caregivers. The successful candidate will coordinate data collection and subject recruitment, help in programming experiments, running studies with children, assisting with data cleaning and data processing, behavioral coding, helping complete administrative tasks for the lab, supervising undergraduate research assistants, scheduling, communicating with the Institutional Review Board, and engage in community outreach. This person will also have the opportunity to be involved in conference presentations and journal articles. Training and close supervision will be provided. Thus, this position is particularly appropriate for candidates hoping to increase their research training prior to applying to graduate school.

Responsibilities

The lab manager will be expected to:

  • Conduct general administrative duties (e.g., purchasing and setting up, equipment, developing lab manuals)

  • Preparing IRB protocols and maintaining IRB compliance

  • Work with new and existing staff to coordinate the day-to-day operation and management of research projects, including recruiting and scheduling participants.

  • Develop and implement protocols for maintaining data quality, including outreach and follow-up with participants.

  • Clean, process, and code datasets

  • Assist with conference presentations and research publications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Human Development and Family Sciences, or related field.

  • Ability to work independently, with other researchers, and with young children

  • Effective time management and attention to detail

  • Experience and comfort communicating with families and children under 10-years-old.

  • Outstanding interpersonal communication.

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends to accommodate family schedules.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spanish fluency (speaking and reading/writing) - strongly preferred

  • Experience collecting EEG, fNIRS, or RSA/PEP data - strongly preferred.

  • Experience with child data collection - strongly preferred

  • Experience with recruitment and data collection with under-represented samples.

  • Proficiency with statistical and programming languages/software (e.g., SPSS, R, Matlab, java, python)

  • Familiarity with data collection software (e.g., Qualtrics), and basic office software suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Salary Range

$40,000-42,000 depending on qualifications.
