Position Information

Classification Title Social Science Technician FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in a social science field is preferred. Experience working with children is preferred.

Position Summary

This Social Science Technician position will recruit families to participate in the research study, screen participants for eligibility, run participant visits (which involve collecting observational and physiological data, conducting child cognitive tests and interviews, and administering surveys to parents), track participants' contact information and contact them for follow-up visits, manage participant data, and assist with processing of observational and physiological data.

Position involves working some nights and weekends, depending on participant availability.

The position is available for one year and maybe renewable for another year, contingent on availability of funds.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Basic background in social science research and exposure to research methods and designs.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.

  • Familiar with MS Office programs.

Recruit eligible families for participation and schedule participants and research assistants for lab visits.

Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities

Interact with study participants. Collect and record data in accordance with research objectives. Monitor incoming data for accuracy. Ensure lab compliance and safety. Troubleshoot for technical problems and maintain integrity of project protocols.

Organize lab documents. Maintain subject/participant database. Monitor confidentiality of study participants.
