The faculty of Edison Evening Academy stands united and committed to the values of academic excellence, equity and inclusion, and culturally sustaining education. Edison Evening Academy provides a rigorous high school diploma program focused on academics, career training and college readiness to students ages 17 and older in the City of Brockton.

Edison Evening Academy staff seek to reengage students who are over aged and under credited (OU) for grade level, and are either at-risk of, or have already dropped out of school. Edison Evening Academy is a choice program for the Brockton Public Schools, designed to meet the diverse needs of students who might not thrive in a traditional setting.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Appropriate DESE educator licensure
2.Desire to work with students in a non-traditional educational setting that supports opportunities for academic, college, and career
success
3.Ability to support the social, emotional, and academic needs of students who did not find success in the traditional school
environment, who are at-risk of dropping out or who may have already dropped out of the traditional high school
4.Ability to prioritize authentic, culturally responsive relationship-building that centers students' lived experiences

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Participate in district and school-based professional development
2.Collaboratively plan with content/SPED/ESL teachers and other specialists to align instruction and coordinate supports for
English learners and students with disabilities
3.Work collaboratively with guidance, administration and students and families to develop, implement and support each student's
Individual Graduation Plan
4.Develop Learning Studios to designed to build vocational and practical skills using competency-based, hand-on lessons
5.Implement the district identified, high-quality instructional resources to enact evidence-based, inclusive, and culturally and
linguistically responsive practice
6.Plan outcomes-based units and lessons using evidence-based, inclusive, and culturally responsive instructional methods and
activities. These lessons may be for up to four different grades/preps
7.Provide equitable opportunities, supports, and scaffolds for all students to meet or exceed high expectations
8.Accelerate student learning through Blended Learning Labs with synchronous and asynchronous lessons
9.Engage in protocols designed to support students' academic progress, such as looking at student work and lesson planning
protocols using district identified high quality instructional materials
10.Contribute to a positive, collaborative school and classroom culture that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion
11.Use Restorative Justice practices in the classroom to build community, ensure student agency and to address concerns related
to culture and climate
12.Communicate regularly with families and caregivers through conferences, phone calls, and email to discuss students' progress
in an effort to engage all families in the success of their child
13.Administer all required district and state assessments (unit tests, Star, MCAS, WIDA ACCESS, etc.)
14.Perform other related duties as assigned by the Edison Evening Academy leadership team

WORK DAY: Teacher hours: Monday-Thursday 1:20 p.m.

  • 8:30 p.m. and Friday 11:00 a.m.

  • 6:15 p.m. The academic schedule for the student's day will not follow a traditional high school schedule. This schedule is being developed, and will be designed to support student's academic growth and social and emotional well being.
