While Basketball Operations runs the league's on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world's most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA's success.
This position will oversee the communications strategy and execution for Social Responsibility (SR) and Player Development (PD) programs, Marketing campaigns and Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) efforts of the NBA, WNBA, 2K League and G League. This position will also oversee athlete storyline development, liaising with internal stakeholders, teams and player representatives with the goal of securing national and local coverage on an ongoing basis, and manage communications around celebrity-driven events throughout the year, including securing coverage in top-tier entertainment outlets.
Developing and overseeing strategic communications plans for all SR programs including NBA/WNBA Cares, NBA Voices, NBA/WNBA FIT, government affairs events and select international events
Managing communications strategy and media promotion for PD programs including Rookie Transition Program, NBA Draft, Assistant Coaches Program, NBA Associate Program, etc.
Managing communications strategy for NBA, WNBA, 2K League and G League Marketing campaigns to secure coverage in major advertising, marketing, sports and lifestyle publications
Co-managing messaging and promotion of leaguewide D&I efforts
Overseeing prepartion of key messages, Q&A and press releases for announcements, key messages and Q&A for executive interviews and public speaking engagements for relevant department leaders (SR, PD, Marketing and D&I)
Overseeing strategic communications strategy to promote NBA, WNBA, 2K League and G League celebrity-driven intiatives including NBA All- Start Celebrity Game, notable anthem performers, etc.
Leading athlete storyline development efforts for the NBA, WNBA, 2K League and G League including setting weekly meetings with members of Communications, Marketing, Customer Data Strategy and Digital/Social departments to obtain media coverage in top-tier sports, entertainment, business and lifestyle outlets
Strong writing skills and ability to communicate efficiently
Established media contacts within lifestyle, entertainment, health and wellness, digital, tech, business, philanthropic and sports media, and a proven track record of landing successful stories
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
Ability to handle high-pressure situations with poise and confidence

Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field preferred but not required
