This position is assigned to the Juvenile Justice Central Office in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The mission of the Juvenile Justice Section in the Department of Public Safety, Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is to reduce and prevent juvenile delinquency by effectively operating an integrated, comprehensive juvenile justice system that intervenes through education, and treatment of youth in order to promote youth accountability, strengthen families, and increase public safety.

The Research Unit within Juvenile Justice (JJ) coordinates, conducts, interprets, and delivers data to the public, legislators, executive agencies, commissions and committees, stakeholders and advocates. The Research Unit works alongside policy, training, and strategic planning and in coordination with Department of Information Technology staff.

The Research Unit is the business analytics arm of Juvenile Justice, where dashboards and other products inform leadership of trends. The Research Unit presents analysis to various internal and external entities, including in local, state, and national venues. The Research Unit works with public and private entities to inform grant applications, evaluate programs and services, conduct analyses, and formulate data and research plans, models, and methodology.

The Social Research Specialist III position will work under the direction of a social research manager and with Information Technology staff to respond to data requests, create data reports that keep managers throughout the State updated on projected impacts of legislation, provide training on initiative related endeavors and business analytics systems, create dashboards in business analytics systems, institute evaluative components to alert directors of successes and challenges, and construct strategic planning measures' reporting.

This position provides specialized analytical and consultative work in the areas of research, planning/policy analysis, decision support, and program development activities and service to Juvenile Justice. This position is responsible for 

special project planning and management, working with Information Technology to create analytics surrounding policy issues, legislative reports and several boards and commissions data projects (e., JJAC, GCC, SPAC, etc.), create and verify data and findings, conduct data analysis, and create graphic representations of data for multiple internal and external stakeholders. This position researches and implements data solutions, conducts effectiveness studies, oversees some special projects, and acts as the lead on data management initiatives.

The salary grade for this position is NC16.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned to the position from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience;
