This part-time student position is dedicated to promoting visual and performing arts events presented by the OCCC Department of Cultural Programs through social media. It involves organic listening to gauge community interests, creating engaging content, fostering community engagement, monitoring trends for relevance, and collaborating with the marketing team to coordinate promotional efforts. This role is ideal for students possessing strong communication skills and a passion for the arts, who are keen to leverage social insights to enhance online engagement.

Reports To Box Office and Marketing Manager What position(s) reports to this position?

None

Minimum Education/Experience

Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.

OR

Current OCCC student with a Federal Work-Study award.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in navigating and using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, and TikTok effectively.

A basic appreciation and interest in the visual and performing arts to create relevant and engaging content.

Understanding of fundamental marketing strategies to engage and grow an online audience.

Ability to articulate ideas clearly and engage with an online audience through written and verbal communication.

Capability to generate innovative and appealing content ideas that captivate the target audience.

Skill in organizing tasks, prioritizing responsibilities, and managing time efficiently to meet deadlines.

Openness to learning and adapting to new information, trends, and social media platform updates.

Aptitude for monitoring and understanding online conversations to inform content creation and engagement strategies.

Willingness to work in a team environment, share insights, and contribute to collective goals.

Ability to address and resolve inquiries or concerns from the online community in a professional manner.

Ability to learn new skills quickly after training.

Ability to see projects to completion.

Self-motivated.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time.

Be able to stand for up to 2 hours at a time.

Must be willing to work in several working environments: gallery, office, theater, college hallways, college storage areas, and outside; any locale associated with or where Cultural Programs activities can take place.

Must be able to lift or push up to fifty pounds, for short periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications

Public Relations, Mass Communications, or related degree track.

Bilingual

  • English and Spanish

Prior experience in using social media to sell and promote goods or services.

As arranged around the student's class schedule, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., not to exceed 25 hours per week.

Develop and post engaging content on social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok) related to campus performing arts events.

Create a mix of content types, including text posts, images, and short videos, to highlight upcoming events, share behind-the-scenes glimpses, and celebrate past successes.

Monitor social media comments and messages, responding in a timely and professional manner to foster a positive community.

Engage with followers by answering questions, thanking them for their support, and encouraging conversation about the performing arts.

Keep an eye on trends within social media platforms to ensure our content remains relevant and engaging.

Use basic analytics tools to track the performance of our posts and identify what content resonates most with our audience.

Work closely with the college's marketing team to ensure social media activities align with broader promotional strategies.

Participate in regular meetings to discuss content plans, review feedback from the online community, and adjust strategies as needed.

Stay informed about best practices in social media management and the evolving landscape of digital marketing.

Be open to receiving feedback and learning new skills to improve performance and engagement.

Assist with other projects and duties as assigned. These may include, but are not limited to: processing ticket sales, document imaging, filing, serving as department receptionist, answering and routing calls, copying, faxing, sorting mail, assisting with theater events, and assisting department staff as requested.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
