Mon-Friday 8:30-5pm

Evening/weekends as appropriate. Available to respond to time sensitive social media incidents in the absence of the social media specialist.

Eligible for one day telework following successful completion of probationary period and approval of supervisor.

General Description:

The Social Media Manager is responsible for the development and execution of social media strategy and content across a myriad of NOVA platforms. This position will work strategically across the College to advance storytelling and build brand awareness, connection and community, thereby enhancing the college's reputation locally, nationally and internationally. This includes, but is not limited to students, faculty, staff, college leadership and administrative council members.

Duties and Tasks:

  • The Social Media Manager will work with the Director of Communications and Enrollment Marketing to develop an annual strategy that incorporates NOVA's brand pillars and vision.

  • They will be responsible for building relationships and communicating the social media strategy to the Director and college leadership.

  • They will execute goals and objectives efficiently and effectively towards the overall success of the college.

  • They will supervise the Social Media Specialist or similar role.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

KSAs:

  • Knowledge of Web products such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and X, along with how to best use them as marketing and engagement tools to promote the College.

  • Proven ability to manage a brand or organization's social presence across platforms and successfully engage fans and followers.

  • Knowledge of latest social media trends and policies, business models, and web/SEO technologies and best practices.

  • Knowledge in editing, Web, social networking and marketing .

  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills,

  • Strong collaboration skills.

  • A high degree of professionalism and the ability to work successfully within a cross-functional team and members of NOVA's wider community.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • A goal-oriented multi-tasker.

  • Must be proficient at working in a team environment.

  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft (PC) office applications, HTML, CSS, and Photoshop.

  • Knowledge of AP Stylebook guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience creating and executing a social media strategy.

  • Experience in creating digital content.

  • Experience in institutional branding, marketing and market research.

  • Experience with developing marketing plans, informational/marketing materials and online publications.

  • Experience with graphic design, social media and communications.

  • Experience writing compelling social media copy across a variety of industries including corporate and non-profit sectors.

  • Experience working in a higher education environment

  • Experience working in a Content Management System.

  • Experience with photography processes as they apply to publication and promotional work.
