As a member of the University Communications team, the Social Media Content Creator will inform, engage, and entertain audiences with timely, relevant, and appropriate content across multiple social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter/X, as well as new channels that may become important. The Social Media Content Creator will focus on quick-turnaround content, aligned with current and emerging trends, the CMU brand, and CMU's current campaigns, with the goal of increasing CMU's presence and relevance on its primary social media channels. This position will engage with audiences by responding to post comments and direct messages and will assist with all aspects of online community management, including social listening and reporting. This individual will also assist with data collection and analysis and work closely with members of the social media, news and media, and marketing and digital strategy teams to develop content that reaches target audiences, growing awareness of and interest in CMU.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, public relations, digital media, communications, or a related field.

Experience developing content for a group, organization, or business on the major social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter/X.

Experience working with multidisciplinary/multifunctional teams to complete projects.

Proficiency with video recording and editing on mobile devices, especially Apple iPhones.

Highly creative and self-motivated.

Detail-oriented and goal-focused.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated confidence in meeting and working with new people.

Ability to remain organized while managing multiple tasks under strict deadlines.

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Must be passionate about Central Michigan University and/or the higher education experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with best practices for social media content creation.

Experience with Adobe Rush, Adobe Express, CapCut, and other content creation/editing tools.

Experience working with social media hosting and monitoring programs such as Agorapulse, HootSuite, Hubspot, and others.

Experience driving action from social media content and tracking performance on goals.

Understanding of Search Engine Optimization and general marketing best practices.

Familiarity with data analytics tools and the use of data to drive content development.

Comfortability being on camera and interacting with new people.

Duties & Responsibilities

Creates daily content for CMU's primary social media channels at the direction from the Associate and Assistant Directors of Social Media.

Produces (create/capture and edit) and shares photo and video content appropriate for various stakeholder audiences on various social media platforms.

Develops content to align with trends and CMU's brand for the university's primary social media channels.

Works with the University Communications team to identify current and emerging social media trends, quickly developing ideas to engage CMU.

Identifies opportunities to capture content across campus, including awareness of upcoming events and activities, student organizations, and more.

Pulls social media data from dashboards and channels/platforms, participates in review and assessment of social media analytics, and uses findings to guide content creation.

Participates in cross-functional team meetings to brainstorm and develop creative content.

Assists with social media community management, including interacting with followers through comments and direct messages, and participates in social listening.

Assists with the development of resources for internal stakeholder groups, including campus social media managers, social media ambassadors, and interns.
