The Office of College Communications and Marketing is the campus' creative partner for communications, marketing, PR and editorial needs. We provide creative services and a variety of supports to stakeholders across campus, with a focus on projects that serve high-level institutional priorities and communications strategies. These include enrollment, retention, graduation, philanthropy, revenue generation, and alumni and community engagement.

Primary Purpose

Under the direction of the Executive Director of External Relations and Communications within the Office of College Communications and Marketing (OCCM), the Social Media and Marketing Coordinator will provide leadership and professional expertise in the areas of: daily management of the college's institutional social media channels; development and management of additional channels/platforms; follower engagement; social media marketing; analytics; content development; and digital strategy for existing content.

This role will coordinate the college's institutional social media presence through the development of thoughtful, well-curated content and work strategically to grow the college's social media following and boost engagement. This person will oversee the daily social media presence on all existing platforms and evaluate new platforms and tools for potential growth of the college's institutional channels; collect and analyze data from social media analytics to make informed decisions about the college's social media strategy and social media marketing campaigns; provide advice and support to other departments and offices in developing and maintaining their own social media accounts; and maintain a central repository of social media accounts across campus.

The Social Media and Marketing Coordinator will also assist OCCM colleagues and others with marketing campaigns, production of creative content, video and photo shoots.

Essential Duties

  • Develop a unified social media voice and strategy across the college's current institutional channels (Facebook, Instagram, X [Twitter], LinkedIn, YouTube).

  • Develop strategies to build audience, grow brand awareness, expand reach and increase engagement.

  • Evaluate other social media platforms (TikTok, Snap, Threads, etc.) for potential additions to college's institutional channels; launch and manage new accounts.

  • Work with OCCM and/or Admissions to develop strategies to drive conversions (applications, lead generation, event registrations, campus tours).

  • Track performance across several KPIs including impressions, reach, followers, click-through rates, and shares.

  • Create social media specific content, including formatting of content based on each social media platform, and manage visual identities on social channels, including profile pics, etc.

  • Develop and maintain social media content calendar.

  • Monitor competitors and peer schools for ideas and best practices; evaluate performance against them.

  • Develop social media policy/best practices, including social image templates, for campus community.

  • Create content designed for engagement and reach across channels and platforms; optimize existing content (new stories, marketing materials, etc.) for deployment on social platforms.

  • Source and work with influencers to drive brand and awareness.

  • Utilize tools within social platforms and on Google Analytics to benchmark and measure ROI.

  • Evaluate additional social media management tools/analytics platforms (i.e. HootSuite, Later, SproutSocial, etc.) for possible use by OCCM and other departments; launch and manage those accounts.

Occasional Duties

  • Assist external vendors on social media marketing campaigns, including development, execution, analytics and content creation.

  • Assist with photo and video shoots.

Work occasional nights and/or weekends (with advanced notice) to document college events on social media.

  • Work on special projects and other duties as needed.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with existing and emerging social media platforms; knowledge of social media trends and best practices.

  • Demonstrated experience with developing, implementing and evaluating social media marketing campaigns.

  • Demonstrated experience with social media analytics across a variety of platforms.

  • Demonstrated experience preparing written content, photography and video for social media across platforms, and optimizing existing content for social media.

  • Basic working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud or similar video/image editing tools.

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within and across departments.

  • -Effective time management skills, ability to meet deadlines; ability to work independently and self-direct. Knowledge of and experience with mobile technology for social platforms, digital cameras and other tools for content capture/creation.

  • Basic working knowledge of digital photography/videography.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Required Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, mass media, public relations, journalism or a related discipline.

Experience:

Minimum of three years of full-time experience working with social media tools and metrics for a brand, company or organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in higher education.

  • Familiarity with advanced social media analytics tools (i.e. HootSuite, Later, SproutSocial, etc.).

  • Demonstrated experience launching new social media channels and building audiences.

  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress, XML or other standard Web publishing tools.

  • Familiarity with the Associated Press news writing style.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, digital photography and videography.

  • Demonstrated understanding of data-driven web environments, web scripting languages and trends in mobile devices.

  • Bilingual
