Position Overview

Position Summary

The Department of Housing and Residence Life at Winston-Salem State University is accepting applications for our Social Media and Digital Content Manager position.

The primary purpose of the Digital Content Manager is to develop and manage engaging, timely, and accurate content for the digital platforms of Winston-Salem State University's (WSSU) Department of Housing and Residence Life, including the WSSU Housing and Residence Life website, social media accounts and printed digital designs. This role involves close collaboration with the campus partners, enhancing awareness of the services and programs provided by Housing and Residence Life. The Digital Content Manager is expected to stay current with emerging digital trends and offer strategic recommendations to the Marketing and Communications team. This position is responsible for creating culturally competent, brand-aligned content and will report directly to and operate under the vision and leadership of the Assistant Director of Marketing, Communications, and Strategic Priorities.

The goal of this position is to also positively influence the university and the public's awareness of the services and programs offered by Housing and Residence Life. This position will also work with our Assistant Director of Marketing, Communications, and Strategic Priorities with donor engagement efforts and opportunities.

maintain and educate residential students of WSSU in such a way

that enhances the WSSU experience for our imporant campus stakeholders.

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Desired Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic HTML and CSS and background knowledge of web technologies.

  • Understanding of all social media channels and best practices.

  • Working knowledge of AP Style required.

  • Basic understanding of web communication, online marketing techniques, and public image concepts.

  • Experience with social media, content management systems, and basic web development software is preferred.

  • One year of professional experience using Google Analytics and/or additional analytics platforms to make informed decisions.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

  • Experience Canva Pro Software

  • Experience with Videography & Photography

  • Strong design and presentation skills required.

  • Superb interpersonal communication skills.

  • Excellent written English skills with an eye for detail in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and presentation.

  • Ability to learn and master new technologies.

  • Ability to remain calm under stress and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and prioritize workloads.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or other related fields.

  • 2 to 5 years of experience with progressive responsibility, including as a designer, freelancer, or manager in an educational institution's digital marketing, advertising, or communications.

  • A thorough understanding of integrating social media and online media strategies is required.

  • Experience working in a higher education setting is strongly preferred.

  • Candidates must be knowledgeable of AP Style and have a strong grasp of long and short form writing, styles, and standards for each social and digital channel.

  • Must be prepared to work evenings and weekends for occasional events or high need situations.

  • Manage and generate content in the form of text, photos, and video for distribution via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms.

  • Provide content for determined advertising and promotion programs and evaluate compatibility with client's public relations efforts.

  • Define and implement PR and Communication strategies to grow the brand presence of both the client and Housing and Residence Life in existing and new market segments.

  • Administrate the creation and publishing of relevant, original, high-quality content for clients across social platforms.

  • Develop and grow presence and reach for external and internal clients across social platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, You Tube, and other channels (Snapchat, Pinterest, etc.).

  • Define and implement strategies to grow both client and agency brand presence in existing and new social channels, to increase followers and engagement.
