Position Title: Communications Specialist (Social Media and Content Specialist)

Employment Type: Full time, Academic Staff, Exempt

Reports To: The social media and content specialist will report to the executive director for communication and marketing.

Pay Range: $45,000-$50,000

The Social Media and Content Specialist will hold a crucial role in devising and executing comprehensive social media and content strategies aimed at driving engagement, fostering connections, and amplifying the university's mission across various social media platforms. Using interview skills to gather information from students, staff, and faculty, they will also write powerful copy for email, print, and web campaigns. The ability to understand the university's target markets and write persuasive text with varying voices and styles to suit each audience is critical to success.

The social media and content specialist works in the university's Communication and Marketing office, which is comprised of marketing, design, communications, printing, and creative professionals.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management of all official university social media accounts, ensuring consistent communication and engagement with the main university's audience.

  • Research topics and interview subject-matter experts to write original content, edit current content, and optimize content for a variety of channels (social media, print, web, email marketing, etc.)

  • Capture photography and video for social media posts, maintaining visual consistency and brand identity.

  • Monitor and analyze social media metrics, providing regular reports and recommendations for performance enhancement.

  • Formulate and execute a content calendar synchronized with the digital and social media strategies and marketing objectives of the university.

  • Provide guidance and direction to affiliated university social media accounts, promoting best practices in social media management.

  • Provide guidance and direction to student social media interns.

  • Assist with crisis communications through digital platforms during campus emergencies, ensuring timely dissemination of information.

  • Editing and proofreading.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or related field.

  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience with solid portfolio.

  • Excellent editorial, proofreading, and writing skills.

  • Experience with various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, LinkedIn, and X.

  • Proficiency in social media management tools such as Buffer, Hootsuite or Tweetdeck.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Creativity and innovation in digital communications strategies.

  • Willingness to engage with social media during off-hours and respond to issues promptly.

  • Basic photography and videography skills a plus.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
