Description:
This is a full-time 12-month position working for the North Cook Regional Office of Education/Intermediate Service Center (NCISC) in collaboration with 39 districts, two special education cooperatives, our Regional Safe School, and Student Advocates within the North Cook Region. The SEL & Behavior Coordinator works directly with the North Cook Leadership Team and reports to the Director of Education & Professional Learning in an office environment and out in the field within our school districts. This individual will require knowledge of student and staff SEL needs, behavioral strategies to implement in tandem with educational teams, and adult learning theory to support ongoing administrator, teacher, staff, team, and parent professional learning.
This role requires a visionary with exceptional collaboration, presentation, problem-solving skills in the area of student and adult learning, specifically aligned to social, emotional, and behavioral supports. It is important to this position to effectively achieve multiple goals and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Passion and urgency for the critical need to address SEL and behavioral health to improve the lives of students and families is essential.
Specific work schedule to be developed in collaboration with the Executive Director based on the North Cook calendar (generally, Monday-Friday, business hours).
Job Summary
Examine organizational SEL wellness via a needs assessment and assist in the development of an action plan based on data, i.e. Trauma Responsive Schools Implementation Assessment (TRS-IA): Whole School Safety Programming; Whole School Prevention Programming; Whole School Trauma Programming; Classroom-based Strategies; Prevention/Early Intervention Trauma Programming; Targeted Trauma Programming; Staff Self-Care; and Community Context
Work with NCISC staff, teachers, educational teams, administrators, families/parents/guardians, and/or adolescents with a focus on social, emotional, and behavioral supports
Offer workshops to NCISC staff, teachers, educational teams, administrators, families/parents/guardians in order to provide SEL/behavior support in a variety of areas
Recommend evidence-based Tier 2 & 3 social, emotional or behavioral interventions
Recommend practices in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to meet students' social and emotional needs and behavior challenges
Utilize a Train-the-Trainer model (TtT) to schools and districts to implement sustaining student SEL/behavior strategies aligned to established student MTSS goals or district-wide/school-wide improvement plans or SEL needs inventories
Complete monthly and quarterly reports
Complete other responsibilities as assigned

Physical Demands:
The employee is required to:
Travel independently to various North Cook County districts, schools, and our office as required
Operate office equipment, sit, and occasionally reach with hands and arms
Frequently stand, walk, sit, see, talk and hear
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; such as files, boxes, and paper supplies
Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; such as files, boxes, and paper supplies
Use computer monitors, laptop, and type on the keyboard as needed
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Special Education, Social Work, School Counseling or a related field highly preferred. The educator must hold an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL); an LBS II-Behavior Intervention Specialist endorsement is preferred. Experience using SEL assessments to determine organizational, staff, and individual student needs. Previous job-experience in an SEL or Behavior Specialist role is highly preferred.
Salary/Benefits
The Coordinator will earn a salary of approximately $75,000-$80,000 depending on experience. This position includes the following benefits:

Retirement benefits for this position are facilitated through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of the State of Illinois. As a North Cook employee, the Coordinator will annually receive 12 vacation days, 12 sick days, and 2 personal days.
North Cook ROE/ISC observes the following Federal and State holidays: 4th of July, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples' Day, Election Day 2024, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, President's Day, Easter Holiday, Memorial Day, and Juneteenth; as well as a 2-week winter break that includes Christmas and New Years Day.
