SUMMARY: Reports to the building principal. The Social Emotional Interventionist Assistant supports identified students to remain in school and be successful in the classroom. The interventionist creates a safe environment for dysregulated students to refocus, relax, and practice the skills necessary to handle situations. The interventionist will be supported by the building counselor, social worker, and an administrator, to develop and implement individual student plans. The interventionist will be responsible for working with students individually and in small groups. The interventionist will be trained members of crisis and student support teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for coordinating and creating restorative student plans with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.

  • Responsible for supporting the Restorative & Reset Room.

  • Perform trauma informed/social and emotional learning (TI/SEL) casework service with individual students and groups to provide intervention for those personal, social or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.

  • Coordinate or serve as an active member of building level resiliency teams, intervention teams and educational planning and placement committees and provide intervention based planning and support for students at need.

  • Consult and collaborate with other school personnel in gathering and providing information on a student, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student's behavior.

  • Perform casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students, to increase parent understanding of their constructive participation in resolving their child's challenges and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.

  • As needed, make home visits for the purpose of fostering positive home/school relationships and gathering helpful information on a student's background to establish necessary support in the school environment.

  • Provide social-emotional learning opportunities for students throughout the school day, giving students the chance to learn and practice SEL skills along with academics.

  • Directly teach social and emotional skills, emotion regulation strategies, and conflict resolution skills to individual students and small groups.

  • Maintains and promotes positive relationships in a safe and caring learning environment

  • Monitors behavioral goals related to self-regulation.

  • Collects data and prepares reports for analysis.

  • Assists with the implementation of the school's Positive Behavior Support and Intervention program.

  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with social skills.

  • Confers with parents on the progress of students.

  • Attends Student Support Team Meetings.

  • Serves as a Check In-Check Out mentor and manages student breaks with Identified Students.

  • Offers support in crisis situations with identified students (CPI Trained).

  • Implement small group or individual plans in collaboration with counselor, social worker, and administration.

  • Participates in professional development related to meeting students' social and emotional needs.

  • Takes reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

  • Demonstrates a respectful, cooperative and caring manner with students and adults in the school community.

  • Performs other related work as assigned.

  • Maintains good classroom management and healthy relational skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field required, Masters preferred

  • Missouri DESE certificate in education or school guidance counseling preferred

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Broad knowledge of restorative circles, student interventions, developing proactive student support plans and support systems for students and families.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Requires experience in providing proactive interventions for scholars based on previous actions, teacher support in building a positive classroom culture, hosting restorative circles, working with faculty and staff developing frameworks for a positive school culture.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years working in some capacity with children; preferably in a school setting

  • Successful completetion of background check by Human Resources.

  • Must be self-directed, highly motivated, and able to work independently

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or

  • Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or

  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer.

  • Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects.

  • Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to 20 feet.

  • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups.

  • Requires occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time.

  • The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and is generally a hazard free environment.

  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
