Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to help support the research activities of the UNC Prematurity Program and Dr. Manuck's K24 grant award, which focuses on the role of environmental exposures in preterm birth. The candidate will work with the Manuck Research Team in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Program for Prematurity Prevention.

The candidate will work directly with Dr. Manuck and will assist primarily with data abstraction from the electronic medical record for patients who have enrolled in research. The candidate will also be responsible for additional research related responsibilities as needed by the research team, including: (1) screening for and recruitment of eligible patients in clinic; (2) follow-up with enrolled patients to ensure completeness of patient study-related tasks such as FitBit syncing and survey completion; (3) Assisting with the maintenance of IRB approvals and preparation of revision and renewal applications when applicable; (4) preparation of study-related materials such as brochures and recruitment flyers; (5) preparation of information for scientific dissemination

Dr. Manuck's research projects focus on prematurity and preeclampsia cohort studies with clinical and biospecimen data.

Work will be focused on ongoing NIH-funded projects (R01-MD011609 and K24-ES031131), and internally funded projects within obstetrics and gynecology. These projects have the overarching theme of integrating environmental exposures, genetic epigenetic, and gene expression differences and compares this data among women with adverse pregnancy outcomes compared with those who do not develop adverse pregnancy outcomes.

The candidate will work primarily at 2 off-site clinic locations in Chapel Hill (e.g., not on the main University of North Carolina Hospital campus) that are located approximately 2 miles from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. There are additional opportunities for work on the main UNC campus and remote work.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

It is essential that the candidate have strong interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills. The candidate should also be able to work independently and take initiative and work well with a team as a member of a busy research program.

The candidate should be comfortable with flexible job duties as the needs of the program may change from week to week depending on program needs.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Prior experience with EPIC.

Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team

Bilingual (Spanish) candidates are highly preferred, as many patients are Spanish speaking. Applications from individuals fluent in Spanish will be prioritized.
