Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a research associate/project coordinator/data manager of clinical research projects in melanoma. The position will be responsible for the organization and management of the UNC Melanoma and Complex Skin Cancer Registry and other cancer study databases.

The responsibilities include identification and recruitment of eligible populations, collection and compilation of data, and conveying accurate information to clinical investigators, basic scientists, bioinformaticians, and the UNC Institutional Review Board and/or Clinical Protocol Office while adhering to CITI research ethics and HIPAA regulations. This position will establish an overall plan for the administration of ongoing research projects and will serve as the contact person for the study participants, research personnel, work study students, and investigators.

The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining relationship and encouraging collaborate research with multiple clinicians and researchers. The position will also assist in preparation of manuscripts and presentations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Technical Knowledge

Possesses a satisfactory level of technical skill or knowledge in specific areas and keeps up with current developments and trends in area of oncology research. Working knowledge of the research principles, technical methods and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry including methods of data entry, collection and analysis, and summarizing and reporting results; working knowledge of statistics and related information technology. Knowledge may be acquired through academic and/or on-the-job training.

1.Applies full knowledge of the research principles and methods to interpret, coordinate and/or supervise the collection and analysis of and data/information utilizing UNC Melanoma and Complex Skin Cancer Registry; may recommend or implement technical modifications or alternatives to data/information collection and analysis.

2.Applies full knowledge of statistics and related information technology to oversee the entry, collection and analysis of data/information related to defined research area. May develop new research tools.

Data/information Collection: Observes, monitors, collects, and records data/information in order to assess accuracy, validity and integrity.

1.May design data/information collection and/or quality control procedures. Identifies and reports variations or discrepancies in the data/information within defined research parameters; organizes and prepares data/information for analyses.

2.Provides analysis on data/information collected.

3.Documents procedures and/or methods when atypical data/information methods are used. In addition, this person will report the frequency and situations when atypical methods are used.

Information/Records Administration

Applies knowledge of data/information collection methods, data/information management systems, and project/program knowledge to compile, assimilate, organize, and store data/information; reviews, compiles, summarizes and analyzes data/information to prepare reports.

1.Analyzes and reconciles data/information for reports from different internal and external sources. May serve as a project/team leader.

Communication

Conveys accurate information through a variety of means during all phases of research including data/information collection, processing and dissemination and reporting to individuals or groups. Ensures that the information related to the research is understood. Listens and responds appropriately to others to make the information understandable; prepares and/or makes presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience.

1.Maintains relationships and encourages collaborative research with multiple clinicians and researchers.

2.Consults and makes recommendations in the area of oncology research.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Experience initiating and updating IRB and PRC applications.

Three years of experience in an oncology-related field is preferred. Experience with Epic@UNC, REDCap, Access, and other Microsoft Office programs would be highly desirable.

Required Licenses/Certifications Special Physical/Mental Requirements

Experience in an oncology-related field with project coordinator and/or database management and quality assurance expertise; Experience initiating and updating IRB and PRC applications. An ability to communicate through various forms with multiple researchers is essential.
