Overview

Mass General Brigham's board and system-wide executive leadership are making significant investments in enterprise data and digital health, enabling innovation and transformation in the delivery of health care, research and discovery. By building out core digital and data capabilities, we are supporting the achievement of Mass General Brigham's mission to drive growth and innovation in inpatient, ambulatory, and digital care. In the achievement of these goals, Mass General Brigham's data and analytic teams are working together to build a system-wide data ecosystem. We are both leveraging current assets and building new, integrated solutions to provide a holistic set of industry-leading data and analytic capabilities, supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and real-time insights. Teams from Data and Analytics, Research Analytics, Clinical Data Science, and Information Systems are collaborating to build this new data and analytic ecosystem. To ensure success of this effort, Mass General Brigham is standing up a new Data and Analytics operating model with a goal of driving a level of standardization for data and analytic operations across the teams involved.

The value of investments in data and analytics were proven out during our response to COVID-19 as these investments were leveraged to stand up new reporting and analytic capabilities to support executive and clinical leadership on managing the pandemic. Our broad data and analytic community has come together across Mass General Brigham's 14 healthcare sites with shared urgency, delivering analytic tools to our system that drove timely insights in both clinical and operational domains, resulting in effective delivery of critical care and in organizational efficiencies during a time of reduced resources.

Team Description

The Cloud Administrator will join the Mass General Brigham Digital Data Platform Team. The Digital Data Platform Team is made up of several teams supporting platform architecture and administration, data architecture, data engineering, data governance, data quality, and end user support. These teams work together in conjunction with other MGB teams to design, develop, validate, maintain, and support the MGB Digital Platform and many different analytic data assets and products.

Role Summary/Overview

The Mass General Brigham Digital Data Platform team is seeking a SnowFlake Architect .This role will employ deep technical expertise in SnowFlake to implement and support the Cloud EDW platform and related technology solutions.This will require working collaboratively in an Agile operating environment alongside fellow Data Platform teams as well as other technical and non-technical teams across Mass General Brigham.

The Snowflake Architect should excel and provide critical expertise in several key operations areas but also be willing to grow and contribute in an Agile environment to ensure consistent delivery and support to the Cloud EDW and overall Cloud Data Platform.

Principal Duties/ Responsibilities

The Snowflake Architect will specifically be responsible to:

  • Manage all aspects of database design, including implementation, maintenance, security, audits, and performance.

  • Snowflake Architecture and Design: Collaborate with stakeholders, data engineers, and business analysts to design and architect data solutions based on the Snowflake cloud data platform. Create detailed data models and schema designs to support various business requirements.

  • Snowflake Architecture and Design: Collaborate with stakeholders, data engineers, and business analysts to design and architect data solutions based on the Snowflake cloud data platform. Create detailed data models and schema designs to support various business requirements.

  • Data Integration: Develop and maintain data integration workflows to ingest, process, and transform data from various sources into Snowflake. Implement ETL/ELT processes to ensure data accuracy and consistency.

  • Design and develop secure access to objects in Snowflake with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Column Level Security RCLS for the Snowflake objects.

  • Implement advanced techniques for Snowflake performance-tuning methodologies

  • Perform administration tasks, including user and group administration, security permissions, group policies, research event log warnings, monitoring performance analysis, trouble shooting, problem resolution and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together correctly in all snowflake database environments.

  • Provide support to ensure platform and data delivery SLAs are met and the platform and data residing on the platform are secure and adhere to Information Security requirements and standards.

  • Support data analytics/ML self-service platforms and environments.

  • Perform and/or coordinate server patching, upgrades, and software patching.

  • Support the release/implementation and production support of specific MGB Digital initiatives.

  • Proven experience as a Snowflake Architect or similar role, with hands-on experience in architecting and implementing data solutions on the Snowflake cloud data platform.

  • Experience in administering and supporting Snowflake.

  • Possesses strong hands-on experience with SQL and 5 years of experience with data warehouse and analytics architecture.

  • 3 years of hands-on Snowflake experience in development, modeling, and architecture.

  • Experience with Python programming skill.

  • Proven understanding of traditional analytics projects, such as data warehouses, data lakes, master data management, system integrations, etc.

  • Excellent understanding of Snowflake Internals and integration of Snowflake with other data processing technologies(DBT).

  • Experience in Platform Security Administration and OKTA Integration.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with both technical and non-technical teams.

  • Strong attention to detail, well organized, problem solver and able to set priorities.

Preferred Skills/Abilities/Competencies

  • Certification with Snowflake.

  • Programming skill in Python.

  • Experience working in environments where Agile, Scrum, DevOps and Production support practices are used.

  • Ability to learn new technology and build repeatable solutions/processes.

  • Ability to anticipate project roadblocks and have mitigation plans in-hand.

  • Knowledge and experience working with relational databases for data querying.

Working Conditions

  • This position can be 100% remote if preferred.

  • When present on-site in Sommerville, standard office environment.

  • The noise level on-site in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

  • This position may require occasional local travel to Mass General Brigham sites, vendors, and/or conferences.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
