The Snowcat Operator Trainee is part of Aspen Skiing Company's Winter Trails team. This position is dedicated to elevating the guest experience by helping to create quality snow surfaces for skiing and snowboarding across our resorts. The Snowcat Operator Trainee provides support to the day-to-day mountain operations and may assist with special events as needed.

Essential Job Functions

  • Learn layout of the mountain and subsequent grooming routes and patterns; has ability to follow lead groomer

  • Groom terrain for skiing and riding while maintaining safety as a top priority

  • Responsible for consistent manner of grooming, creates clean lines on the slopes and effectively cleans up pattern discrepancies that result in crooked lines and/or turn marks

  • Acquire basic blading skills, ability to adjust and safely remove tiller and blade

  • Ability to maintain grooming standard in adverse weather conditions and adhere to all safety protocols

  • Communicate effectively with two-way radio system

  • Valid, current unrestricted Driver's License required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • High school degree or equivalent preferred

  • Fluent in English

  • Heavy equipment experience useful but not required

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Distance vision, Peripheral vision and Depth perception. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

A physical assessment (Work Ready) is required for certain positions.

Skiing or Snowboarding is required for certain positions.
