SMT Operator - 2nd Shift

Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. Here in Appleton we specialize in the manufacturing of printed circuit board assemblies for medical and aerospace industries.

Job Description

Build surface mount (SMT) and Mixed Technology printed circuit board assemblies, placing components on boards per controlled parts lists, drawing documentation and quality workmanship guidelines.

Setup and operate assigned production equipment while achieving goals for quality, efficiency and productivity

Monitor the operation of equipment to ensure that assemblies are built to print and in compliance with applicable workmanship standards

Inspect printed solder paste and component alignment for accuracy
Understand and identify defects in accordance with applicable workmanship standard and class
Performdaily machine maintenance activities for assigned production equipment

as specified on the Preventive Maintenance schedules

Perform manual placement of SMT and PIH components
Load feeders for equipment and wash boards as needed
Adhere to General Requirements of Team Members
Perform other assignments as required
Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area

Skills & Qualifications

HS Diploma or GED
Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer
Mechanical ability to troubleshoot and correct mechanical problems with assigned production equipment
Ability to read and understand load plans
Ability to read and interpret engineering assembly drawings
Ability to read and understand production drawings
Ability to build electronic assemblies
Use a variety of hand tools, including calipers
Basic component identification skills, including all applicable SMT packages
Recognize and identify the different types of solder paste and their application

Position Purpose: Independently perform a variety of aircraft modifications and maintenance functions such as removal and installations of airframes, landing gear, engine components, electrical components, and control systems to assure conformance to procedures, performances and test specifications. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions: 1. Perform required. periodic maintenance and necessary servicing of all aircraft mechanical systems. Must demonstrate the ability to consistently perform assigned maintenance task within the quoted or standard CMP time. 2. Provide work direction for assigned technicians. Promote high standards of quality through instruction and by example setting. 3. Act on behalf of Mechanical Team Lead (MTL) in his/her absence and assume the duties and responsibilities of the MTL when assigned. 4. Coordinate with the Inspection department to ensure compliance with internal and FAA inspection and documentation requirements. Properly complete work order sign-offs, shift turnovers, and other paper work in a timely manner. Ensure that all work accomplished meets quality standards and specifications. 5. Properly identify (tag) customer property and equipment. Store aircraft components and other customer property securely and safely. 6. Follow standard operating procedures and JSAs when operating ground support equipment, such as power supply, hydraulic rigs, nitrogen filler carts, and oxygen service carts. Operate and supervise use of special support equipment used in removal and installations of major components. 7. Coordinate movement of aircraft as required. 8. Assist in training new employees concerning computerized maintenance program (CMP) maintenance manuals, SRMs illustrated parts catalog (IPC) usage, flight test installations, and all maintenance of major components. 9. Coordinate with other departments to arrange for the overhaul or repair of customer property as needed. Additional Functions: 1. Use the material tracking system to create parts demand and to charge labor to correct work orders and item numbers. 2. Apply 6S and Lean Initiatives to keep shops, hangars, and aircraft work areas clean and uncluttered. Properly collect and dispose of waste fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, de-icing fluids, and solvent rags. 3. Implement and apply Lean/continuous improvement processes to all areas of responsibility. 4. Properly use and maintain company-provided tools and equipment. Return items to designated storage area after use. 5. In support of aircraft certification and final phase testing, may include flight tests on aircraft as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Other Requirements: 1. Advanced knowledge of inspection and maintenance procedures for various aircraft models and systems within each aircraft product line. 2. VIEW JOBS Drive forklift truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift, fork-grapple, clamps, elevating platform, or trailer hitch, to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move raw paper materials and in process products and finished products, equipment, or materials in warehouse, storage yard, or factory. May move materials and equipment using an overhead rail crane or operate a rail car mover such as a Trackmobile. May load and unload semi trailer trucks. Maintain accurate inventory and report any discrepancies. May load or unload materials onto or off of pallets, skids, or lifting device. Perform safety checks on lifts. May lubricate truck, recharge batteries, fill fuel tank, or replace liquefied-gas tank. Responsible for inventory control, tracking and reporting inventory utilizing a materials management system.
