JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Smeal College of Business seeks to hire interns in the following areas:

Writers

Are you skilled enough to conduct research, ask probing questions and craft what you've gathered into an insightful, informative story? If you answered yes to those questions, and you're eager to take on other communications challenges, then you might be a good fit with our team.

The Smeal College of Business Office of Marketing and Strategic Communications is seeking two self-motivated, creative and intellectually inquisitive student communications interns with excellent writing, editing and communication skills to craft content for Penn State News feature stories and social media posts in support of our brand storytelling efforts. The successful candidates will have completed Communications 260W and be able to thrive in both independent and highly collaborative environments.

Knowledge of AP and University style is preferred. A willingness to learn and integrate Smeal brand elements into work products is essential.

The internship will run through the Fall 2024 semester with the potential to be rehired for the Spring 2025 semester. Successful candidates would be expected to work 10 hours a week for 12 weeks, some of which may be evenings or weekends, at a starting rate of $12 per hour.

Social media

The Smeal College of Business is seeking an intern to help develop and create social media content for its Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn and Instagram channels.

The successful candidate would be able to suggest ideas for posts or campaigns, create posts, monitor social media channels and engage positively with followers, and identify students/alumni/influencers and assist in developing and maintaining relationships. The ability to capture creative, compelling photos and gather interesting, high-quality video is a must.

The internship will run through the Fall 2024 semester with the potential to be rehired for the Spring 2025 semester. Successful candidates would be expected to work 10 hours a week for 12 weeks, some of which may be evenings or weekends, at a starting rate of $12 per hour.

Multimedia

The Smeal College of Business is seeking an intern to capture high-quality, creative and compelling still photos and video to be used on social media, to accompany Penn State News stories, to include on the college website and potentially be included in Smeal Magazine. Other duties would include archiving photos, searching archives for topic specific photos and developing ideas for photo shoots.

Candidates are expected to own or have access to professional photo equipment and possess experience in photography and editing photos.

The ideal candidate will be able to thrive in an independent atmosphere and follow explicit instructions, while possessing the creativity to capture additional, related images.

The internship will run through the Fall 2024 semester with the potential to be rehired for the Spring 2025 semester. Successful candidates would be expected to work 10 hours a week for 12 weeks, some of which may be evenings or weekends, at $12 per hour.
