Join LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech Company, as an SMCO Help Desk Technician, contributing to cutting-edge aviation analysis and modeling tools with expertise in high-fidelity modeling, statistical analysis, and advanced programming. The System Management Console Operator (SMCO) will provide first-level helpdesk support expertise on systems administration, system design, system architecture, and operations & maintenance support for large, complex systems. Must have solid technical skills in Linux, Windows, Solaris, and VMWare environments.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day operational system administration support to administer, monitor, and maintain a large-scale computer network and related software, hardware, and configurations.

  • Supporting and following configuration management plans and processes, updating documentation, and supporting annual authorization processes including independent testing teams.

  • Providing system monitoring, access, effective stakeholder notification and communication, and various other engineering and operational activities

  • Providing technical and system administration support through troubleshooting, identifying, and isolating issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing appropriate solutions to software and system issues as they occur

  • Responding to program-related issues, resolving problems and customer tickets, and preparing technical documentation accurately depicting the problem and/or solution to provide to the developer/level 2 support if necessary.

  • Installing, configuring, patching, and maintaining servers and workstations

  • Maintaining the health of the network environment and servers

  • Identifying and analyzing issues that affect the performance of the system, working in close coordination with the development team, and recommending solutions for the issues.

  • Recommending and implementing system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system including installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management.

  • Analyzing and identifying discrepancies in the system, assessing the risks, and suggesting solutions while adhering to security standards.

  • Developing and documenting technical processes and procedures, if needed Experience with critical operations in a large-scale secure environment

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Math, or Science

  • 5 years of relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.

  • Master's degree or MBA in a related field may substitute for a bachelor's degree along with 3 year's experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Unix/Linux (Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server/Workstation Suite and Red Hat Satellite Server Suite preferred) including knowledge of related hardware and software.

  • Detailed knowledge of the Unix methods, and techniques used in systems administration and support.

  • Detailed knowledge of Unix principles, file editing, Unix commands, and file manipulation

  • Experience providing operations & maintenance support, including supporting helpdesk, providing 24/7 engineering support for system outages or corrective maintenance, supporting technology (hardware/software) refreshes, and understanding backup procedures and storage management.

  • Available for on-call support, if needed

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite including, but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook.

Nice to Have

  • FAA Systems Administration or Help Desk Experience

  • Knowledge of Linux/Perl scripting, web-based applications, HP OpenView Enterprise, VMware VSphere Enterprise Server Suite, TripWire Enterprise Console, NetApps System Storage Manager

  • Understanding of LAN/WAN networks

  • Knowledge of networking principles including routing, subnets, and an understanding of the following: TCP/IP, VLANs, NIS, NFS, DNS, DHCP, FTP/TFTP, SSH, SFTP, ARP

Work Requirements:

  • Work location: Hybrid out of WJHTC, Egg Harbor, NJ

  • Travel: Less than 10%

  • Physical requirements:

  • Extended Computer Use: Regular and prolonged periods of working at a computer terminal.

  • Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be required during installations or maintenance.

  • Mobility: Ability to move around the office environment to access computer hardware, networking equipment, and server rooms.

  • Dexterity: Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computer equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform tasks requiring precision.

  • Sitting/Standing: Both prolonged sitting and occasional standing may be required for troubleshooting and attending to system issues.

Compensation (Pay Bands)

Salary at LST is determined by a wide array of factors, such as (but not limited to) education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.

The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and is based on full-time, 40-hour/week status. Part-time staff receive compensation at an hourly rate. The estimated minimum and maximum displayed represent the broadest range for this position (inclusive of high geographic and high clearance requirements) and are just one component of the LST's total compensation package for employees. In compliance with local laws, LS Technologies presents this reasonable compensation range as a guideline for roles in California, Colorado, New York, or Washington D.C."
