Performs basic diagnostics, service repairs and maintenance work on customer and/or dealer-owned agricultural and lawn and garden equipment. May require some direction or guidance from the Service Manager, Service Location Manager, Shop Foreman or senior technicians.


  • Performs basic diagnostic and repairs on light construction and turf equipment.

  • Participates in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge.

  • Maintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products.

  • Maintains condition of vehicles, inventory, tools and equipment.

  • Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion.

  • Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignements.

  • Completes all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments.

  • Accounts for all time on a time card and for all material used in performing assigned duties.

Experience, Education, Skills and

  • 1+ years of experience in performing service repairs on mowing equipment and handheld power equipment.

  • Small engine mechanic experience highly preferred.

  • Ability to perform basic repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures.

  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in the repair of turf equipment.

  • Ability to use basic computer functions.

  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes.

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to lift 75lbs repeatedly.

  • Basic Service Technician certification preferred.

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience required.

  • Valid driver's license is required.

  • Fork lift certification preferred.

This position is a Full Time, Year Round position.

To troubleshoot and repair of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical failures; performs preventive maintenance and inspection on production machines and equipment according to a scheduled system while maintaining a clean, safe working environment. Typical work may include but is not limited to: Working with injection molding equipment, flywheel, pneumatic systems and hydraulic presses or assembly equipment, troubleshoots production machinery and equipment for electrical and mechanical malfunctions. Assists in the teardown and rebuild of an injection-molding machine. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and periodic inspections on production machinery and equipment. Lubricates and cleans parts. Adjusts devices positions and controls. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Troubleshoots mechanical failures. Repairs or places defective parts. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Installs parts into devices. Starts devices to determine their performance. Maintains spare parts inventory. Orders parts. Computer work as workload dictates. Keeps an accurate record of work performed. Performs other routine duties as necessary. Keeps work areas clear and free of debris. Adheres to safety rules and ergonomic practices. The perfect person will have: High School Diploma or Equivalent 3-5 years maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Must have knowledge of injection molding equipment, flywheel and hydraulic presses or assembly equipment. Must have basic computer skills, PLC programming, ladder logic, hydraulics and pneumatics aptitude. Must read and interpret Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Electrical schematics. Mechanical troubleshooting skills, electrical troubleshooting skills. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on as needed basis. Must be able to stand, sit, walk, stoop and bend for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment. Must be able to work the required shift.
