Within Nuveen, Retail Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) Operations is responsible for the administration of 60,000 individual client accounts and over $70 billion of assets.

The Separately Managed Account Investment Operations Leader, Head of Account Servicing, is responsible for leading a team of professionals who are responsible for various operational processes pertinent to account onboarding, portfolio accounting, internal client service and business oversight. This leader will help support and grow Nuveen's Separately Managed Accounts Platform to implement strategic initiatives, collaborating with internal and external partners, and driving key projects. The successful candidate will have experience in a collaborative work environment, and a passion for working across departments to identify, prioritize and execute initiatives that improve the client experience, scale and efficiency of the business.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage the Account Servicing team that encompasses onboarding, portfolio accounting, client service and business oversight

  • Ensures investors' separately managed accounts are monitored and that team members coordinate effectively with financial intermediaries and custodians.

  • Interact and partner with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Investments, Sales, Finance, Product, and Legal as it relates to implementation of new business (client agreements, investment restrictions, reporting) and ongoing support for the firm's Managed Accounts platform.

  • Implements process improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiency, define the right measures of operational risk; drive prioritization of initiatives.

  • Ensure alignment of Service Level Agreement goals and monitoring of operational KPI's

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory policies by implementing and monitoring operational processes; actively participate in internal and regulatory audits.

  • Manages performance of team through regular, timely feedback as well as the formal performance review process to ensure delivery of exceptional operational processes and to foster team member engagement, motivation, and development.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years relevant management experience in the retail SMA industry

  • Experience with financial markets, investment concepts and separately managed accounts

  • Experience with fixed income and equity securities

  • Experience working with financial regulations and operational risk and controls in accordance with policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building relationships and taking appropriate action to gain cooperation, establish rapport and building consensus.

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with complex operational issues, including resolution with key stakeholders.

  • Exceptional and effective verbal and written communication skills, and ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external partners, clients, and financial advisor firms.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field with at least 5 years of experience and working knowledge of the Managed Accounts (platforms, clients, advisors) business, including SMA client service, product and/or operational experience (account servicing) within the asset management industry.

  • Service oriented, client-focused, consultative philosophy.

  • Teamwork mentality, and ability to develop, engage with and maintain effective teams

  • Champion new initiatives, including leading cross-departmental coordination to present ideas and implement solutions.

  • Adaptable to work in an ever-changing, multi-tasked environment with high priorities, varying workloads, and deadlines.

  • Ability to optimize use of technology, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Base Pay Range: $122,300/yr. - $175,000/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
