Job Summary: Evaluate overnight polysomnograms.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Score wakefulness and sleep electrophysiology with regards to standardized sleep scoring criteria as published by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

  • Partner with the PI, research team, and collaborators to quantify block of recording time info and transfer to file formats suitable for statistical analysis in SPSS or SAS.

  • Help develop quality assurance in recordings.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • 1-3 years related work experience required.

  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

VIEW JOBS 12/7/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-07T00:00 GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The Data Scientist will work autonomously and under general supervision of the Program Director and Director of Biostatistics within the Program of Sleep Medicine Epidemiology in the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders. The primary role of the Data Scientist will be to lead the design, analysis and interpretation of large data sets from a variety of projects, including clinical trials, genetic epidemiological studies and cohort studies. Analyses will include use of state-of-the-art machine learning methods as well as standard basic and advanced epidemiological and biostatistical tools. The Data Scientist will be responsible for ensuring that the most appropriate method(s) are chosen for given scientific objectives; data are processed and organized to support these analyses; output/results are interpreted appropriately; and data reports are prepared for use by a wide audience. The Data Scientist will develop analysis pipelines and open source packages (R, Python), and will work under the principles of reproducible research. Secondary goals are to assist with signal processing of physiological data contained within the large sleep datasets, generating novel measures to use for prediction and genetic analyses. The Data Scientist will work with other team members, including data managers, informaticians, geneticists, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and project coordinators to support ongoing clinical and epidemiological research projects, including large cohort studies, genetic epidemiological studies, and multi-center clinical trials. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs programming in R, Python, MATLAB, and/or SAS to analyze large datasets for developing and validating prediction equations, identify at-risk clusters, to enhance genetic statistical analyses, and to assist with analysis of clinical trials data. 2. Develops reproducible, readable, and well documented pipeline code for analysis and data processing tasks. 3. Conducts advanced signal processing of complex physiological signals to derive relevant biophysical metrics, and tests these in large epidemiological studies. 4. Prepares research reports, including internal documentation, academic publication, and research presentations at national meetings. 5. Assists with training post-docs and new investigators in Machine Learning and "big data" methods. 6. To support data curation, harmonization and maintenance activities across multiple studies, to assist with maintaining the integrity of collected data over time, and to allow transfer of complex physiological and biological data captures using proprietary software to the department's databases. 7. Assists with data cleaning, generating queries of potential data errors or inconsistencies and works with the IS Manager and project managers/coordinators to resolve issues. 8. Performs all other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: PhD or Master's degree in data science, biostatistics or epidemiology 3 to 5 year's work experience or PhD degree with evidence of successful application of statistical/analysis skills Ability to work with very independently and prioritize tasks effectively. Two to three years of data analysis and data management experience using SAS, R, Python, MATLAB, Latex, SQL, version control (e.g. git), OOP, and Unix/Linux. Extensive understanding of the scientific method, epidemiological study design and biostatistical principles. Knowledge of biomedical engineering principles and ability to conduct advanced signal analysis. Ability to productively interact with investigators, biostatisticians, informaticians, and research staff to accomplish project goals. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Advanced knowledge of data analysis, data management, clinical research, epidemiology, and biostatistics. Highly organized, with decision-making skills, initiative, and ability to work as part of a growing data management team. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
