Essential Functions:

  • Follow procedural protocols, such as, diagnostic polysomnography, split-night, parasomnia studies, positive airway pressure and oxygen titration, etc., to ensure collection of appropriate data.

  • Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments.

  • Follow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.)

  • Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct and document artifact.

  • Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedures, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.

  • Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)

  • Follow "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g. repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instructs the patient on completing questionnaires, and check for completeness, etc.)

  • Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.

  • Assist with scoring clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.)

  • Assist with the generation of accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care and treatment, assessment, and education.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download.

  • Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures for portable monitoring devices.

Skills Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels.

  • Ability to complete competency CPR and First Aid

  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to distressed patients, families or visitors.

  • Possible exposure to inside environmental conditions.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires standing, sitting or walking for up to 12 hours or longer per day.

  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to certificate or associate degree with emphasis in sleep technology or completion of a sleep technology program associated with a state license and/or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of six months of experience as a sleep trainee with documented proficiency in all required competence.

  • Holds a certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds either the RST, RPSGT, or SDS credential.

  • BLS certification within 6 months of hire and kept current

  • Must adhere to NRMC Appearance and Attire policy.
