Works under supervision of the Director of Cardiopulmonary Services (and in conjunction with the Sleep Medicine physicians, Medical Director and staff) to coordinate quality patient services by providing operational/clinical supervision and education to departmental staff, to include but not limited to, staffing, work assignments, conflict resolutions. Performs therapeutic/diagnostic procedures in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Facilitates, guides and supports Polysomnography staff in the delivery of safe and effective patient care. Maintains continuity of departmental functions.

1.Coordinates quality patient care services by providing clinical/operational management during the shift(s) to include departmental staffing, policy procedure monitoring, patient scheduling, staff assignments and conflict resolutions.

2.Maintains continuity of all services offered by the Center by providing departmental guidance and utilizing positive communication to patients, staff, Director, and other Hospital personnel.

3.Involved in assuring the Sleep Center meets and maintains all State and association requirements including The Joint Commission standards (TJC) and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accreditation standards and that all related policies and procedures and Quality Improvement initiatives are

monitored, updated, and reported as required.

4.Works with the Director to coordinate opportunities to promote the Sleep Center to physicians and the public through facilitation of lunch and learns with physicians offices, community lecture series, CPAP support group meetings, staff lecture series, and through other cross promotional activities to encourage patient referrals and improved care and confidence in the Center.

5.Promotes improved quality of patient care by relating any identified staff or clinical issues to Director and by participating in, implementation of departmental standards, policies and procedures, competencies, quality improvement process, and projects.

6.May perform Polysomnography procedures as prescribed by a physician and in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

7.Contributes to cost-effective patient care by monitoring use of time, equipment and supplies.

8.Attends all necessary meetings, to include staff meetings, meetings with physicians, Director, departmental in-services and all other meetings as deemed necessary.

9.Acts as resource and role model by providing direction, guidance and technical assistance to staff.



  1. Complies with safety policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.

  2. Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in Hospital or department activities.

  3. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients.

  4. Assesses/evaluates the learning needs of staff to include orientation program for registry staff and new employees, continuing education programs and


educational offerings as appropriate based upon any quality improvement results.



  1. Provides coaching to staff as needed when clinical issues are identified.

  2. Provides for clinical consultation within the framework of the multi-disciplinary team meetings, as requested by the Director.

  3. Promotes/provides community education/outreach and support groups.

  4. Participates in performance appraisals, discipline and interviewing process.

  5. Assists in staff development by participating/coordinating in departmental orientation/competencies and maintaining appropriate staff records.

  6. Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: B.S. preferred.

Licensure: Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) through the American Academy of Sleep required. BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required. Additional Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) licensure preferred.

Experience: Minimum five (5) years experience in the field of Polysomnography. (Prefer additional minimum three (3) years (RRT) experience). Demonstrated skills and knowledge managing/supervising an AASM accredited Sleep Center and utilization of Performance Improvement theories, practices, and techniques/application including IT data collection, patient record and billing systems. Comprehensive knowledge of polysomnography principles, theories and practices of all sleep studies including MSLT, MWT, PAP-NAPs additional experience with pediatric sleep studies preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with hospital employees. Ability to exercise good judgment and tact in providing strong leadership guidance and assistance.Ability to function independently with minimal direction.

The hourly rate for this position is $49.14 - $61.43. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
