Job Summary:
The Polysomnographic Technologist performs comprehensive Polysomnographic testing and analysis. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. The Polysomnographic Technologist will possess a solid knowledge base in the clinical application of Polysomnographic studies.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
1.Perform thorough analysis of polysomnographic studies, including sleep stage scoring, and summarization of abnormalities of sleep.
2.Generates summary reports in preparation for review by the Medical Staff.
3.Manages paperwork involved with studies: corresponds, maintains logs, files, and directs to appropriate parties.
4.Prepares polysomnographic equipment for studies.
5.Prepares patient for sleep studies, including technical prep and pertinent patient education.
6.Performs studies: studies will be artifact free; documentation must include thorough report of significant events, behaviors, and information that may be relevant to the patient's evaluation.
7.Assists in training SDC staff.
8.Reports need for supplies.
9.Serves as a technical resource for patients, physicians, and staff.
Maintains equipment: troubleshoots when necessary, oversees maintenance schedules, communicate needs to manager.
Follow departmental policies and procedures.
Evaluates, monitors, analyzes, and makes recommendations in Performance Improvement activities.
Requirements
1.High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
2.Must be able to complete sleep stage scoring, respiratory abnormality scoring, ECG abnormality detection, and report generation.
3.Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills.
4.Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situation and apply policy.
5.Must be a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), Registered Sleep Technologists (RST), or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
