Under limited supervision, support the Human physiology Lab (Biology 2425) faculty and staff. Assist in the movement of course materials from Canvas to the www.slccphys.com website. This movement will entail copy/paste and checking for updates and improvements.

This position will also help gather materials to prepare for peer-reviewed publication. Find and sort journal articles on Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs), undergraduate research at junior colleges and research in teaching and learning in human physiology. Also help to organize students survey data from Biology 2425.

Assists with and provide logistical support for Biology 2425 faculty and student at special events and professional development activities related to the student presentations given at the UP3RC Conference, POPS Symposium, and/or Bruin Brains.

High School diploma

0-2 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Enrolled student at Salt Lake Community College with some computer skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Would prefer if the student had successfully taken Biology 1610 and Human Physiology (Biology 2420 and 2425). However, if the student has a strong background in Microsoft applications, database searches and critical thinking skills they would be considered.

Comfortable learning new technologies.

Ability to prioritize tasks as they arise and meet multiple deadlines in a timely manner and do so effectively under stress. Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly.

Ability to relate well to diverse co-workers and students.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Self-motivated, creative, and able to work and accomplish tasks with minimal direct supervision.

Through employment in the Human Physiology lab, students will develop:

Deeper skills using Canvas, Microsoft applications and website organization. And a deeper understanding of principles and concepts having to do with human physiology and the science of teaching and learning.

Thank you for applying for the Specialist I position located in the biology department, Human Physiology lab, at Salt Lake Community. This job is a Work-Study position.

We accept work-study applicants from all campuses and need students that could work at the Jordan Campus and/or Taylorsville Campus. There is also an option to do remote work once the student feels comfortable with the work requirements.

Work-study is awarded to SLCC students through the Federal College Work-Study program, which requires establishing financial need through the FAFSA application from the Financial Aid Office. If you do not have work-study awarded to you, you will not be eligible for work under work-study positions.
