GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for various general trades and preventive maintenance functions throughout a prison facility and property. Preference is given for skills in electrical and electronics. This position will be responsible for the repairs and upkeep of the facility in all trade areas and is under the supervision of the Skilled Trades Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
Responsible for electrical duties, including replacing light bulbs and ballasts, repairing or replacing switches, controls, dialers, and other electrical components, troubleshooting and locating problems, and maintaining/operating emergency generators.
General maintenance and preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment throughout the facility and property.
Accomplishes troubleshooting, repair, remodeling, and general construction of state facility maintenance.
Plans directs, assists, supervises, and inspects the work of skilled and non-skilled inmate workers, including training inmate work crews on the proper use of tools and equipment.
Manages an inmate crew of up to 15 inmates in the completion of maintenance projects.
Responsible for the upkeep of fleet vehicles and equipment and other mechanical systems.
Installs, repairs, and maintains heating systems, gas systems, refrigeration systems, boiler systems, and air handling units.
Assists with snow removal as needed.
Responsible for maintaining proper tool control, accountability, and logs.
Maintains records through the AIM maintenance management software.
Responsible for the water and sewer service (pump stations, sewer lift stations, automated fire sprinkler systems, irrigationsystems, etc.) for the facility.
Reads and interprets mechanical, topographical, and electrical schematic drawings and maintenance manuals used in maintaining and repairing electronic equipment.
Conducts inspections at facilities, including developing an inspection schedule and timelines to ensure the system complies with federal, local, and environmental standards.
May work with and escort vendors and contractors to complete various tasks and assignments.
Be able to work on-call on a rotating basis to include occasional night and weekend hours.
Ensures adherence to all WDOC policies and procedures.
Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to those applicants with 2-4 years of progressive work experience in a skilled trade.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of electrical diagnostics.
Knowledge of applicable building codes.
Knowledge of power woodworking, metalworking, and masonry equipment.
Knowledge and competency within the following areas at a basic or journeyman level.
Knowledge of general construction and remodeling, including applicable building codes and regulations.
Knowledge of grades, kinds, and uses of various wood and wood products.
Knowledge of concrete masonry units and bricks, asphalt, and concrete repair.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to construction operations and vehicle and/or aircraft maintenance facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's Degree
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Skilled Trades) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Skilled Trades Laborer
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Skilled Trades) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Skilled Trades Laborer
