JOB SUMMARY

This position maintains a clean and comfortable environment for staff, residents and visitors to the Citrus Heights Health Center (SNF) at the Masonic Homes of California at Covina.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Receive and follow Janitor/EVS schedules and instructions from Skilled Nursing Director of Facility Services or Skilled Nursing Lead Janitor and as outlined in established procedures.
  • Clean/polish furnishings and fixtures in resident rooms, offices, recreational areas and patios as instructed. Clean and sanitize kitchen and bathroom fixtures.
  • Perform routine fixture, grounds and floor care including sweeping, mopping, raking, washing down, buffing tiled and concrete surfaces. Performs routine carpet care including vacuuming, extracting and spin bonneting.
  • Perform advanced floor care including stripping, prepping and applying various sealants and finishes.
  • Ensure that all Caution/Safety signs are properly set up prior to performing duties. Safely sets up all equipment and barricades. Upon completion, returns site to safe and normal condition.
  • Perform window cleaning, inside and out, at heights up to 15 feet.
  • Clean walls, ceilings, hallways, stairways, room patios and sidewalks as instructed using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
  • Report all defective equipment and malfunctions to supervisor as soon as possible
  • Receive, sort and wash residents’ linen/laundry following schedule and instructions from supervisor and as outlined in established procedures. Remove wet wash to dryers, set proper temperature control and fold clean linen and stack on movable carts. Sort and tag clothes as appropriate. Bag items and deliver to appropriate locations.
  • Assure that all established safety rules/procedures are followed at all times. ..
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident and employee care information to assure their rights are protected.
  • Follow established safety rules and precautions. Report incidents, accidents and unsafe/hazardous conditions/equipment immediately. Report equipment breakdown or malfunctions as soon as possible.
  • Removes all trash from patients’ rooms and common areas, insures trash containers are clean and then relines container with appropriate liners.
  • Properly cleans any biohazard spill or immediately; informs supervisor or director if a hazard exists.
  • Always puts out “wet floor” signs prior to wet mopping common areas or puts out “wet floor” signs in case of flood, spills or overflow.
  • Works safely on a daily basis. Does not endanger fellow workers, staff or residents.
  • Responds to emergencies and cleans affected area as required.
  • Informs and turns in any and all malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or director.
  • Reports and responds to any and all safety issues requiring attention.
  • Understands, learns, and follows all Safety Data Sheets as written.
  • Maintains EVS cart and EVS/Janitorial closet in a clean and safe manner at all times.
  • Carry a radio and other communication equipment while on duty and respond in a timely manner.
  • Handles and disposes of infectious waste safely and properly at all times.
  • Maintains professional working relationships with residents and co-workers.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Completes work and projects in a timely manner, as determined by supervisor/manager.
  • Follows through on assigned work and projects to completion. Communicates to management any problems or issues that are encountered.
  • Regularly identifies and reports necessary facility or equipment issues to management.
  • Seeks additional work when assigned work and projects are completed.
  • Takes care in completing quality work in a professional manner.
  • Stays current and up-to-date on all safety, training, and policies.
  • Follows direction from supervisor, learns by following directions and policies established.
  • Flexible in covering other shifts and schedules as needed.
  • Maintains good attendance & punctuality

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays on occasions for special events.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates preferred.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Move furniture and equipment as required.
  • Assist all Environmental and Facility Engineering departments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facility Services.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities listed, typically:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificates preferred.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

  • Prior Environmental Services experience in a retirement facility or hospital preferred.
  • Able to take written and verbal instructions from supervisor or manager.
  • Knowledge of proper use of commercial cleaning equipment and materials required.
  • Schedules and assignments are subject to change to meet the needs of the Masonic Home.
