Role:

The primary duties of a skilled laborer include maintaining cleanliness and safety at worksites, taking responsibility for individual tasks, and offering support within the department as required. A significant portion of the role involves the upkeep of the Nation's facilities and grounds. Additionally, the ability to follow directives from supervisors and participate in on-the-job training is essential.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all minimum requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Minimum Requirements:

Driving: Valid Kansas driver's license free of occupational restrictions. Must be insurable with the Nation's insurance carrier.

Experience: Three to five years of verifiable experience in construction and/or maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, drywall finishing/patching, light electrical, and painting.

Education: High school diploma or GED. Must obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within one year of hire.

Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essentials elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the PBPN for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of methods, machines, and tools involved in general building maintenance and repair.

  • Knowledge of occupational safety, policies, and procedures with hazardous materials.

  • Knowledge of pool operations and the maintenance of commercial pools.

  • Knowledge of mathematics and simple formulas.

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar, with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Skills:

  • Operational Skills: Watching and reading gauges, dials, or indicators to ensure machines and equipment are working properly. Perform routine maintenance on equipment and troubleshoot to determine the cause of operating errors and what kind of maintenance is needed. Determining the kind of tools and equipment is needed.

  • Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • People skills: Remains open to others' ideas and exhibits a willingness to try new processes.

  • Dependable: Arrives to work on time, follows instructions, responds positively to direction and feedback.

  • Organized: Uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans for assigned work orders. Accurate, thorough and monitors own work for quality and meets deadlines for all assignments with little to no errors.

Abilities:

  • Manual Dexterity: Full body mobility with ability to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects, tools, & machinery. Ability to keep hands and arms steady for precisely coordinated movements. Ability to adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle quickly and repeatedly.

  • Comprehension: Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. Ability to listen to and understand information. Ability to concentrate on a task without getting distracted. Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.

  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to adapt to change e.g., work environment, unexpected events, and procedures.
