About the Team:

It is an exciting time to be part of the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team who will play an integral role at the intersection of software engineering and infrastructure/systems engineering. The SRE team strives to make eBay's services secure, highly available, reliable and performant to our community of users. The team has an outstanding opportunity to advocate and participate in building services that are resilient, optimally monitored, alerted and self-healed by applying software engineering practices to operate the site.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Availability, Reliability and Performance for Request/Response flows.

  • Completeness, Correctness and Freshness for data pipelines are the focus areas

  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills that span systems, network (TCP/IP), and code

  • Hands-on Software engineering skills including Java, Python, Scala etc

  • Expert knowledge in large scale web operations and web based Java/J2EE architectures and JVM configurations

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing dynamic environment

  • Strong skills in data structures, relational and NOSQL databases, networking, web architectures, UNIX flavors

  • BSCS or related 4-year technical degree

Your background, experience, and natural curiosity will enable you to ramp up your understanding of our software component stack quickly. Use your natural tenacity to drill-down to find the root cause of problems, and read and even recommend code changes. You will work across the organization to advance troubleshooting and monitoring capabilities, improve performance, and harden service reliability.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul> <li>Identify, recommend, and execute technical improvements to software deployment and monitoring environment to advance service performance and reliability</li> <li>Document application delivery, support environments, processes, and procedures</li> <li>Monitor systems and services, identify and proactively address issues within our infrastructure</li> <li>Work closely with Engineering, QA, and IT to recommend, design, and implement infrastructure, tools, and processes to improve and scale our services</li> <li>Assist with day-to-day troubleshooting and deployment tasks involving cloud infrastructure, CI/CD tools, application components</li> <li>Produce, analyze, and report on metrics and KPIs for capacity planning and to evaluate system/service performance</li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul> <li>8+ years experience</li> <li>BS or higher in Computer Science/Engineering </li> <li>Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to communicate well</li> <li>Desire and ability to quickly internalize design of custom software solution, and learn new tools</li> <li>Experience building, deploying, operating, and monitoring large-scale transactional systems and custom software solutions</li> <li>Self-motivated, self-starter with demonstrated ability to organize, plan and establish priorities to meet objectives on time</li> <li>Substantial engineering experience including scripting, software development, database (SQL and NoSQL)</li> <li>Experience with monitoring systems such as LogicMonitor, Nagios, Splunk, ELK</li> <li>Database experience especially SQL Server, MongoDB</li> <li>Windows and Linux scripting experience; Bash, Ruby, Perl, and Python</li> <li>Experience delivering services via Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud providers</li> <li>Understanding of continuous integration, deployment, and operations concepts</li> <li>System administration with both Linux and Windows</li> </ul><p><br></p><p>Ideal + </p><ul> <li>Experience with Redis, nginx, ActiveMQ</li> <li>Familiarity with git, BitBucket, SVN, Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, NEXUS</li> <li>Experience with the modern DevOps stack including Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Jenkins</li> <li>Experience with configuration management using Chef or Puppet</li> </ul> Audible Magic San Jose CA
