Job Description
Cox Automotive is currently looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our team.
This position is HYBRID. Eligibility is limited to US Residents currently residing within the Metro Atlanta area.
Beyond contributions to the Wholesale Auctions Delivery Stream, this role will participate meaningfully in the ongoing improvement of the larger SRE community and practice within Manheim and Cox Automotive. The Site Reliability and Release Engineering communities are tightly integrated, collaborating on the development and implementation of a wide range of ideas and initiatives. While the engineers who comprise these teams are extremely senior in their scope, there's a refreshing tendency toward humilty and a rejection of hubris that sets the tone for mutual respect and open high-trust interaction, resulting in fruitful engagement, and teams that are the envy of the enterprise. SRE is the place to BE. Honestly, everyone here considers it a priviledge to work with the other - it makes doing what we do even so much more enjoyable and satisfying. Come and see for yourself!
As a Site Reliability Engineer at Cox Automotive, you:
Have a consultant's mindset - you LISTEN, understand, and lead your customers into the goodness of Reliabilty practices
Have incredible communication skills
Understand the power of empowering
Have an irresistible compulsion to automate EVERYTHING - testing, deploying, monitoring, etc.
Are able to take a complex and possibly ill-defined problem and produce a technically reasonable solution, with visuals
Shamelessly don't know everything, having a keen sense of the balance between connecting the dots yourself and reaching out to the team for perspective in the name of expedience and efficiency (no cowboys, no energy sinks)
Display a strong sense of ownership for the work you produce
Daydream of a future with no "Root Cause Analysis" because nothing ever goes down anymore, and you are a major reason for it
Champion of, and well-versed in the value and practice of blameless post-mortems, always iterating toward increased Reliability
Are self-aware. You realize we are all growing together, and we want to help each other do exactly that - you win when we win
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in a related discipline and 2+ years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as Masters degree and up to 2 years' experience; or 14 years' experience in a related field.
Hands-on experience in software development and architecture/solutioning
Java/Ruby/Python development experience
Agile experience
Strong background with Infrastructure As Code (Terraform and CloudFormation)
Daily working experience with Amazon AWS technologies including: ECS, EC2, IAM, Lambda, Cognito, WAF, Elasticache (Redis), Elasticsearch, RDS, DynamoDB,SNS, SQS, S3, Systems Manager
Experience with CI/CD tools - cool points if you've worked with CodeBuild, CodePipeline, CodeDeploy, Github Actions, Jenkins
Strong Linux/Unix background
Experience with different database engines
Must have experience with monitoring/alerting/ observability tools such as: New Relic, Datadog, Splunk PagerDuty
Excellent written communication, problem solving, and process management skills
Desire to work in a fast paced, evolving, growing, dynamic environment.
