The Jacobs Eastern Washington Transportation team is looking for creative, driven, technical engineering professionals to join our team. As part of our team your primary responsibility will be in the development and delivery of many exciting Local, State, and Federal transportation related projects. This position will directly support the Civil Engineering Supervisor on all aspects of capital improvement projects. Position Summary

Jacobs's Gainesville, Florida office islooking for a highly motivated entrylevel site civil engineer to work supporting multi-discipline designsincluding site development, water/wastewater facilities, constructed wetlands,environmental remediation, conveyance projects, ports, roads and highways, etc.This position will primarily support mid- and senior-level engineers to completeplanning/study documents, preliminary design, detailed design, permittingdocuments, and engineering reports.

EntryLevel Site Civil Engineers

  • Work under the supervision of senior level engineers

  • Perform a wide variety of routine assignments which areclearly defined and require the application of standard design engineeringtechniques, procedures and criteria

  • Support conceptual and detailed designs for multi-disciplineprojects for civil/water/wastewater/environmental infrastructure

  • Coordinate with other disciplines such as architects,mechanical, structural, electrical and process

  • Perform civil design tasks related to:

  • Site development and layout

  • Stormwater and drainage

  • Roadway and pavement

  • Grading

  • Erosion and sedimentation control

  • Site/facilities layout

  • Utilities and conveyance piping

  • Complete tasks assigned on time, within budget, and to highlevel of quality

  • Assist in the preparation of plans and specifications,engineering reports, engineer's cost estimates, and quantity take-offs

  • Assist in the Preparation technical documents and reports

  • Assist in perform site civil design using CADD tools such asMicrostation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations anddetails

  • Demonstrate time management and organizational skills

  • Possess high ethical values and strong sense of commitment toself-development, team work, and desire to work in a deadline driven teamenvironment Exercise judgmentrequired in developing plans or alternatives

  • Perform field activities such as observation of constructionactivities, as required

  • Review construction submittals for conformance to contractand design documents

  • Perform the routine aspects of assignments requiringknowledge and application of engineering principles

  • Work with Excel, AutoCAD, Microstation, and other modelingtools to perform site civil calculations and designs

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a four year degreed ABET accredited civil engineering program with a minimum of 3.3 GPA0-2 years of experience in the civil engineering field

Fundamentals of Engineering (aka EIT) exam passed

Familiarity in the use of CADD tools, such as Microstation and/or AutoCADExperience with Microsoft Office SuiteThe ideal candidates will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Civil 3D or Microstation Inroads Experience

  • Some experience performing stormwater design calculations, roadway and pavement design, grading and drainage design, erosion and sedimentation control design, and stormwater pollution prevention plan development and calculations

  • Some experience supporting site civil design projects

ARA is seeking a civil engineer to participate in research and engineering consulting projects in support of ARA's contract with the Florida DOT State Materials Office (SMO) in Gainesville. The engineer's primary responsibility is to serve as a technical resource on pavement marking and pavement marker performance topics and issues. In this position, you will become familiar with relevant Florida DOT pavement marking and pavement marker test methods and specifications and with national test methods such as ASTM E1710, E2832, E2302, E1696, and D4414. You will be responsible for the preparation of technical reports and presentation materials and other tasks as assigned. Other tasks could include supporting the other nondestructive testing and analysis functions at the SMO, such as Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), friction, and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) testing. Duties include: * Managing and analyzing Florida's National Transportation Product Evaluation Program (NTPEP) test deck data * Responding to District questions and determining if further investigations are needed * Traveling to roadway job sites to conduct forensic investigations * Producing pavement marking performance models from the state's Pavement Marking Management System database or from research data * Operating relevant handheld testing devices * Reviewing lab test results * Participating in research on material performance * Evaluating data collection processes Training will be provided. Prior experience with the assessment of pavement markings and pavement markers is not required but would be beneficial. A background in chemistry would be beneficial as well. A traditional background/education in pavement engineering is required. Must have knowledge and understanding of highway pavement design, evaluation, and management practices; structural capacity evaluation; pavement materials engineering; pavement performance modeling; resilient modulus analysis; soil materials characterization; statistical analysis; and general data reduction.
