The Single-Family Mortgage Loan Underwriter is responsible for independently evaluating, authorizing or recommending approval of loans, advising lenders on loan status, offering solutions to incomplete or inaccurate documentation, and may serve as a lead worker. This position will analyze applicants' financial status, credit and property evaluations, review and update credit and loan files, offer solutions and alternative documents to meet requirements, and review loan files to ensure that they are complete and accurate according to DCA, FHA, VA, USDA, and BOND policy and guidelines. The Single-Family Mortgage Loan Underwriter will also underwrite financing and development work in real estate in compliance with various federal financing, tax, and housing rules, regulations and requirements.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Bachelor's degree in business administration, real estate, or a directly related field AND One year of experience in single family mortgage loan underwriting OR Five years of experience in single family mortgage loan underwriting.

An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience, and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of federal financing, tax, and housing rules, regulations and requirements
Knowledge of affordable housing and other financial assistance and lending programs
Knowledge of research and analysis methodology and techniques
Knowledge of Quality Control and Audit functions in single family originations
Knowledge of financial status and credit requirements as they relate to loan approval
Skill in reviewing and analyzing loan packages and credit applications
Skill in analyzing applicant's financial status, credit and property
Skill in using tools and technology as they relate to applicant's financial status analysis and loan approval process
Skill in reviewing and analyzing loan packages for compliance with title, law, code, and acceptable standards
Skill in oral and written communication
Ability to recommend solutions based upon policy, regulations and standards
Ability to draft loan terms and conditions as established by the appropriate authority
Ability to ensure completeness of documentation of transactions
Ability to maintain and update databases and other information records
Ability to manage multiple tasks
