POSITION SUMMARY: The simulation technologist (SIM Tech) will provide support for all healthcare simulation operations for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center (NLEMMC) as well as collaborating with system hospitals and academic institutions affiliated with NLEMMC.

The SIM Tech assists with the development of policies and procedures related to education of health professions students and professionals. They are responsible for the inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of multiple simulation technologies including the audio/visual system, task trainers and high fidelity mannequins. The SIM Tech is responsible for the set up and take down of equipment required for simulation presentations and assists with the orientation to the learning environment and objectives of the simulation.

The Sim Tech is involved in ordering and stocking of supplies needed for simulation.

The SIM Tech participates on house-wide workgroups and committees to provide simulation expertise. They also assist in the coordination of simulation-related initiatives. They are involved in simulation construction, presentation, and debriefing using best practice standards as defined by the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL). Perform other job duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: Associates Degree in a computer technology field or healthcare related field or able to complete degree within 3 months of hire.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED: Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification or willing to work to, and acquire this certification within 3 years of employment, Demonstrates Proficient computer skills. Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills, teamwork, organizational skills and collaborative problem solving skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1 year working in a computer technology field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Capacity to concentrate in a busy and sometimes stressful environment.

Ability to come in close contact with people. Sitting, and extended periods of standing and walking are required. The ability to assist in moving stretchers, monitors, pumps, several times a day to accommodate equipment transfer needs.

Must be able to lift 10 lbs. with one hand to attach IV pumps to IV poles. Reaching and stretching may be required at any time. Ability to push and pull heavy computers on wheels; push wheelchairs with simulated patients, frequently lifting 50 pounds without assistance; high volume of stooping, bending, lifting, pulling and twisting.

The SIM Tech must be able to stretch, reach, and retrieve equipment from the supply carts or bend to reach equipment supplied below knee level. Use of the computers and simulation equipment requires visual acuity for reading information on computer screens and fine motor skills for keyboarding and use of a mouse.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Fast paced clinical environment.

Participation in unit specific and hospital wide activities that promote self and staff development. Participation in the development of unit specific strategic goals that assist with the fulfillment of the Eastern Maine Medical Center mission and vision. Sitting, Standing, Walking required.

In addition to unit specific addendum must possess upper body strength, agility, and lung capacity necessary to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Capacity to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment.
