The Simulation Collaborative seeks a Simulation Operations Specialist OR Simulation Operations Specialist Intermediate to support the education of medical students, nursing students, and other members of the healthcare team in the Simulation Collaborative, Anatomy Lab, and Surgical Skills Training Center (SSTC). They assist in educational activities by offering pre- and post-simulation and surgical training support, coordinating technical and administrative tasks, maintaining documentation and resources, conducting simulation sessions, and collaborating with faculty and staff on skills and scenario development. This position will support the daily operations of the Simulation Collaborative, the Anatomy Lab, the Surgical Skills Training Center, and other healthcare education activities, facilitating high-quality experiential learning activities for our learners.

It is anticipated that the majority (greater than 90%) of your effort will be the following duties:

  • Operate simulations by programming, testing, and running scenarios alongside faculty instructors to ensure the Simulation Center and its equipment are prepared for learning sessions.

  • Gain proficiency operating a range of simulator technologies, encompassing anatomic models and task trainers, screen-based simulators, full-body patient simulators, and virtual reality surgical simulators.

  • Provide operational assistance in the Simulation Collaborative, the Anatomy Lab, and the Surgical Skills Training Center as assigned.

  • Acquire proficiency in all facets of equipment operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement.

  • Communicate and provide feedback to the Director/Assistant Director of Simulation Operations and/or Anatomy/SSTC Lab Manager, regarding technology, equipment, operational, and other identified needs essential for the overall maintenance and functionality of supported programs.

  • Gather data to support operational, research, and commercial initiatives as needed.

  • Engage in technical training as required and attend conferences to stay updated on advancements in simulation technology.

  • Lead facility tours and engage in events to showcase our programs.

  • Perform a trained or scripted role in simulation encounters as needed.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

For the Intermediate Level, all the above applies and additional responsibilities would be:

  • Executing simulation sessions without supervision and collaborating with faculty and staff on scenario development.

  • Maintain and update simulation hardware and software.

  • Care for equipment post-simulation, ensuring readiness for use in the next simulation.

  • Maintain inventory for high-fidelity simulation rooms.

  • Create learning materials and scenario documentation.

The remaining effort (less than 10%) will be supporting the Anatomy Lab, and Surgical Skills Training Center (SSTC):

  • Support the SSTC/Anatomy Lab Manager during anatomy lab and surgical training sessions by assisting with set up, operation, and cleanup, including arranging and cleaning surgical instrumentation, laundering surgical gowns, and positioning/moving cadavers.

  • Adhere to, and enforce user compliance, of environmental and BSL-2 safety protocols in the Anatomy Lab and Surgical Skills Training Center.

  • Maintain professionalism, ethical standards, discretion, and respect for the confidentiality of anatomical donors, students, and faculty.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualified candidates will be considered for the following positions.

Specialist:

Education: Associates degree or experiential or functional equivalent in a healthcare or science related field.

Experience: None

Specialist Intermediate:

Education: Bachelor's degree or experiential/functional equivalent in a healthcare or science related field. Master's degree in healthcare simulation, a related healthcare or related educational field may substitute for some experience.

Experience: Two years of healthcare simulation experience.

Licensure: None required. A CHSOS, CHSE or CHSE-A certification may substitute for some experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. Must have the ability to move 50 pounds and remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.

This is a full-time salaried position with hours that will vary based on the scheduled educational needs of our learners. You can expect an average of 40 hours per week with the possibility of working early mornings, evenings, and weekends as the schedule dictates.
