Overview

WMU Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine (WMed) is looking for a Simulation Coordinator to join us at our Upjohn Campus and Simulation Center! Responsible for the day-to-day routine and implementation of simulation activities, including coordinating scheduled activities in the Simulation Center. Programming, troubleshooting, and operating task trainers, high fidelity mannequins, classroom audio-visual equipment, and room video-recording systems during simulation events. Monitoring inventory and allocating specific equipment and supplies used in simulation events. Monitoring and controlling routine daily operations through timely communication with educators, learners, and Simulation Center staff at events. Training of faculty, residents, and medical students on the technical use of simulation equipment and principles of simulation learning.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the use and operation of different simulation technologies and educational software used in the Simulation Center, ranging from screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators.

  • Able to train learners using simulation technologies and educational software.

  • Prepares the facility, mannequins, audiovisual systems, and equipment for training sessions.

  • Assists with the operation of the simulators during training sessions.

  • Assists in researching equipment and supply vendors, obtaining bids, and acquiring and upgrading simulation equipment and supplies.

  • Monitors equipment performance, safety, and certification.

  • Provides training and certification in the use and maintenance of the simulation equipment for those who will use the equipment unsupervised.

  • Assists in the acquisition of technical knowledge of simulator and medical device, operation, and procedures among instructors to ensure that curricula are accurate and appropriate.

  • Performs videotape recording, duplication, mixing and editing. As well as training and technical support for the computer-based recording system.

  • Demonstrates, teaches, and supports the technical aspects of operating simulators to faculty and others.

  • Supports the short, intermediate, and long-term educational and research goals of the Simulation Center.

  • Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.

  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.

  • Assists with thedevelopment and maintenance of policies, procedures, and forms that govern operations.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate or a bachelor's degree in a healthcare, Education, and/or computer field desirable.

  • Experience with medical simulation and/or computer-based instruction and e-learning is highly desirable.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Currently certified or be able to obtain certification as an AHA Basic Life (BLS) Provider.

  • Certification as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider is desirable.

  • Valid Michigan Driver's License required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in PC and Mac-based computer software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word,Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle (e.g. ¾ ton truck) and tow a trailer up to 24 feet long.

  • Strong analytical, interpretive, problem-solving and project management skills.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

  • Maintains a basic level of knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology, andclinical applications.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and standards for quality and accuracy.

  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow.

  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
