Monmouth University is seeking applications for a Simulation Center Director.

Monmouth University, home of the Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Sciences, along with Monmouth Medical Center, part of the Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health Medical System and home of the Unterberg Children's Hospital, have established the Linda Grunin Healthcare Simulation Center, located on Route 36 in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

The Simulation Center is a newly constructed 7,000-square-foot facility composed of six standardized patient suites, four procedure/simulation labs designed to replicate medical/surgical, pediatrics, labor/delivery, and operating room hospital spaces, and learning and support spaces.

The Simulation Center provides an opportunity for healthcare professionals and students from Monmouth University and Monmouth Medical Center, emergency medical technician (EMT) organizations, and other learners in the region to utilize the Center. The Simulation Director will lead, and supervise this state-of-the art facility.

The Simulation Director is responsible for the daily operation of the Simulation Center. The Simulation Director will oversee the preparation, maintenance, inventory and operation of all simulation equipment/supplies and collaborates with faculty and clinical partners to design, plan, implement, and schedule simulation activities. The Director will ensure adherence to simulation program policies, best practices and safety measures to attain course learning outcomes and objectives as well as program outcomes for the various disciplines. The Director is also responsible for hiring, training, and supervision of standardized patients.

This is a 12-month, full-time position. Evening or weekend shifts may be required. This is an administrative position with eligibility for faculty title and rank based on background and experience.

  • Master's degree or higher in a healthcare discipline from an accredited school or equivalent relevant education, training and/or experience demonstrating the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of this position.

  • Current New Jersey State license or eligibility in relevant healthcare discipline if applicable.

  • Two (2) years of experience in healthcare simulation as an educator or simulation technician.

  • Current clinical knowledge and two years of experience working in a healthcare field.

  • Experience with technology and/or computer hardware or software, including PC and/or Mac platforms, MS Office and the ability to learn new technology and software programs quickly.

  • Ability to meet challenges of adult learners with diverse backgrounds and excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Flexibility to work evening or weekend shifts, as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).

  • Managerial, program development, and team building experience.

Leadership and Supervision:

Coordinate and supervise the general operation of the Simulation Center to provide a wide variety of simulation-based learning experiences for multiple healthcare disciplines; act as the primary contact for scheduling all Medical Center, University Schools, Departments, and internal/external partners utilizing the Simulation Center; coordinate scheduling and workflow between programs, departments, faculty, clinical partners, and staff; oversee the regular maintenance, repair, and training for all simulation equipment, including but not limited to: human patient simulators (HPS), computers, monitors, and a variety of healthcare equipment; audiovisual and debriefing systems; virtual reality laboratory computers and other equipment; surgical simulators; computer-based training programs.

Provide technical support for task trainers and multimedia peripherals, including but not limited to: beds/examination tables, head walls, patient monitors, and other healthcare equipment; medication dispensing systems; vital sign monitors; communicate effectively with manufacturers and vendors regarding maintenance, repair, update and technology changes and coordinate upgrades to software and equipment as needed; organize, maintain, and create orders for simulation hardware, software, equipment and supplies; monitor and prepare the Simulation Center budget.

Provide recommendations for purchase of equipment and supplies, anticipating future changes in technology; maintain the Simulation Center to meet current regulatory, safety, and accreditation standards; lead effective collaborations in curriculum development and implementation in simulation-based learning experiences with faculty and Medical Center partners from multiple disciplines, including medicine, nursing, physician assistant, occupational therapy, social work, speech language pathology, counseling, and others; oversee the set up and take down of simulation lab equipment, allowing for rapid turnover of simulation lab set up as necessary; provide theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios as requested.

Program and Curriculum Development:

Incorporate best practices and evidence-based research in simulation program development and implementation across the healthcare continuum, including simulation scenarios, pre-assignments, pre-briefing, simulations, and debriefing; create and implement educational programs for new simulation faculty, including pre-briefing, simulation, and debriefing; participate in faculty and department meetings to assist with curricular development and implementation of simulation-based learning experiences.

Communicate and work effectively with all Simulation Center educators, staff, clinical partners, and students; create a positive work environment demonstrating leadership and supervision for Simulation Center staff, including orientation, training, scheduling, and performance reviews; implement and coordinate training for all users of the Simulation Center, including faculty; hire, train, schedule, and supervise standardized patients.

Outcomes Evaluation, Research, and External Funding:

Network with other simulation experts at local/state/national level to develop and utilize best practices; coordinate and implement data collection for ongoing program outcomes for evaluation, accreditation, research, or grant requirements; cultivate external funding sources; maintain simulation and learner confidentiality; perform other job-related duties as required.
