Job Summary:

This is a mid-level Accounting role with primary responsibility in general accounting related to regional operations, including daily oversight of accounting staff. This role utilizes accounting and economic skills to evaluate operating data, business trends and prepare financial statements that comply with industry practices, regulatory requirements, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams

  • Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies

  • Supervise administrative and financial staff including hiring, training, evaluation, and development

  • Assist with administration, budgeting and financial accounting for the region including ensuring job cost integrity.

  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial reports to ensure integrity is maintained, e.g., inventories, accounts receivable

  • Review financial and administrative issues with Regional Controller

  • Review operating costs and propose potential areas of cost reduction with Regional Controller and management team

  • Analyze detailed job revenue, cost, and accrual information

  • Work with operations to assure proper flow of accounting information

  • Assist with coordination of year-end inventory analysis; developing waste factors, standard inventory cost and selected monthly schedules

  • Participate in external and internal audits

  • Monitor accounts receivables, maintenance of aging records, collections, and data entry

  • Assist with preparation and organization of monthly activity reports

  • Work with estimators to assure proper costs are used in the estimation process

  • Assist in preparation of annual plans, forecasts, and budgets

  • Ensure established internal controls and processes

  • Support implementation of policies and procedures developed at the regional and corporate level

  • Prepare/coordinate reports required by regulatory agencies, e.g., sales and use tax, highway use tax

  • Assist the Regional Controller with special projects as necessary

  • Travel to other offices and work locations as necessary

  • Focus on personal and professional development through individual educational and training opportunities

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CFM (Certified Financial Managers), or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) preferred

  • Valid drivers' license with clean driving history required

Skills:

  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience required

  • Experience with Construction accounting or accounting in similar environment preferred

  • Proficiency in MS Office Programs (Word, Outlook, Excel)

  • Proficiency in accounting programs (JD Edwards preferred)

  • Ability to apply accounting concepts such as debits, credits, reconciliation, analysis, etc.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents

Physical Requirements:

  • Most work performed in an office environment, quiet to moderate noise level

  • Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 35 pounds

  • Frequently required to sit for long periods at a desk using a computer

  • Occasionally required to stand and walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; visiting work sites may require walking over uneven terrain and some exposure to dust, chemicals, and loud noise

  • Some travel with overnight stays away from home may be required

  • Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile device

  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear), and perform tasks requiring visual acuity
