Information about Agilent is available at We have an open position at our Newport, Delaware site where we manufacture High Performance Liquid Chromatography columns.
We are looking for a highly motivated operator to work in our silica production department on 1st shift (3.30am-12:00pm). The successful candidate will be working as part of an operations team, synthesizing chemically modified silica particles.

Role &

Responsibilities:
  • Silica Manufacturing
  • Coordinates workload to meet production schedule.
    Prepares bonded silica for the column loading group and ensures production has the materials needed on schedule and in an efficient and organized manner.
    Sets up chemical reactions in addition to other chemical processes and material handling.
    Maintains documentation and historical records.
  • Troubleshooting/Special Processes
  • Assists in improvement projects and works directly with technical group to assist with troubleshooting efforts.
  • Teamwork
  • Leads by example through demonstration of standards of business conduct, good work ethic and respectful communication skills.
    Participates, cooperates and contributes as part of a team.
    Serves as a change agent who actively supports management programs and encourages new idea generation.
    Escalates any issues requiring management attention.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work on a variety of processes, learn new procedures and new skills, adjust rapidly and effectively to change.

    Requirements:
  • We are looking for a candidate who has experience in industrial chemical/mechanical operations.

  • Min 5 years manufacturing/production experience

  • Must be comfortable working with bulk chemicals

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Basic computer skills

  • Demonstrated ability to bend, reach, stoop and remain standing for extended periods of time (up to 6-8 hours per day).

  • Ability to pass a 7 year background check.
    Desired Experience:

  • Experience with setting up and monitoring chemical processes.

  • Experience with chemical reactors and associated equipment.

  • Experience handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals safely.

  • Familiar with reading control charts and understands when charts require escalation to management/engineering.

Job Responsibilities Responsible for performing Quality Control laboratory analysis testing in support of membrane development and manufacturing. Duties and Responsibilities * Top priority is to ensure safe completion of all tasks and keeping all related training up to date. * High volume, often routine Quality Control lab analysis. * Perform lab analysis and communicate results in a timely fashion to support the mfg. process. * Ensure accuracy and consistency of data. Must be able to perform and cross-train on a variety of lab tests (product performance tests, Karl Fischer, GC, UV etc.) * Perform calibration and selected preventive maintenance of lab equipment * Work with laboratory personnel and contacts to ensure supplies are maintained and instrument maintenance is appropriate for laboratory * Participate in continuous improvement efforts within the lab and company (method evaluations, quality functions, quality assurance issues, housekeeping, etc.). * Duties include safe handling of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals and ensuring that spent materials are disposed of in appropriate receptacles on-site. Required Qualifications * High School diploma or GED required * 1+ years with appropriate instrumentation and data interpretation in a production laboratory environment * Mechanically inclined, adept in the assembly of tube/pipe fitting type samples. * Good computer skills required (scientific instrument software, Word, Excel, Outlook) * Must be able to succeed in a team environment with good communication skills including presentations to customers * Strong command of English language, written and verbal * Initiative and self-motivation * Good organization skills * Ability to work under time pressure on multiple requests * This position is presently a second shift assignment * Must be able to work an offshift & weekends with possible callins and overtime * Work environment is a laboratory.
