Signing & Striping Shop Trades Helper - Street Transportation Department

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Street Transportation Department currently has Trades Helper vacancies in the Signing and Striping Section of the Traffic Services Division. This section is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all traffic control signs and pavement markings in the City of Phoenix across a street network of over 5,000 miles of public roadways. This function is essential to Traffic Services' mission to ensure the safety and mobility of people, goods, and services throughout the City of Phoenix.

Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

SALARY

Pay Range: $18.60 to $30.31 per hour.

Hiring Range: $18.60 to $22.61 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Two years of experience assisting a skilled trades person or performing manual work which involved the use of an acquired skill.

• Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

• Working irregular hours, second or third shift, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.

• Requires:

• Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Working in extreme weather conditions including heat, rain, wind, dust, etc.

• Working for prolonged periods standing in one location, and/or walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.

• All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.

• Some positions may require a class A or B Commercial Driver License Instructional Permit at the time of hire. Individuals may be required to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation physical exam and possess the appropriate commercial driver's license (CDL). Pre-employment drug testing is required for CDL positions. Employees in CDL positions will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.

• Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

• Experience working with hand tools.

• Experience with Pavement Marking Operations.

• Experience with the fabrication and/or installation of roadway signs.
