Job Description

Communication is the pulse of Army National Guard units, and it's up to the Signal Support Systems Specialist to ensure the information keeps flowing so the military doesn't miss a beat.

Signal Support Systems Specialists are responsible for integrating signal systems and networks; performing signal support functions and unit-level maintenance on authorized signal equipment; and installing, operating, and maintaining radio and data distribution systems.

Advanced team members supervise and train other Soldiers; maintain and install signal support systems and terminal devices; provide technical assistance and training for automation and communications equipment; prepare maintenance and supply requests for unit-level signal support; and operate and perform preventative maintenance checks and services on assigned vehicles.

Job Duties

Job training for Signal Support Systems Specialists consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 18 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) which will include a combination of hands-on and classroom training.

VIEW JOBS 5/28/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-08-26T00:00 Job Summary Perform all receiving functions related to any chemical that is delivered to customer site locations. Identify and enter chemicals into the site container tracking system. Return to the stockroom any chemical used by researchers so that the product is visible by others who may request and use. Properly re-name and barcode chemicals returned to the stockroom which may involve identifying, re-naming and bar-coding prior to placing into inventory. Determine proper chemical segregation and place item(s) in the appropriate location based on hazard classification. May locate, dispense, and prepare to ship or deliver chemicals in a timely basis. May perform laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses. Create and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance) Receives and may dispense various chemicals (currently 4000+) as requested by global chemistry research staff. This may involve identifying, re-naming and bar-coding prior to placing into inventory. Identifies proper containers to transport, deliver, and potentially ship chemicals and compounds to locations around the world. This may involve weighing and repacking. Daily fulfillment of chemical orders from customers/researchers. Utilizing the inventory management system, dispenses/deliver chemicals from containers to researchers or requester. Prepares orders for shipment. Chemical orders from chemistry personnel are received by stockroom staff and checked for accuracy, registered into inventory database, assigned to the user and returned to the loading dock. Adds enhanced descriptions when registering containers including adding relevant details such as concentration, mixture, etc. Segregates all incoming chemicals and those returned by scientists in the stockroom by hazard class, DOT requirements, etc, Properly stage for disposal all expired and out of date chemicals; evaluate chemicals and mixtures for quality and safety. Keeps record of disposals. Delivers and picks up stockroom orders to/from the labs. Stores sensitive materials in Cold Storage Refrigerator. Maintenance of inventory using customer systems. Maintains the accuracy of the chemical inventory by scanning all bottles in the stockroom and in the labs. Maintain regulatory lists and safety information in applicable systems for all tracked chemicals. Participates in lab cleanouts. May prepares appropriate shipping paperwork for requested chemicals to be delivered via inter-campus or to other global customer locations. Creates and adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications) Associates Degree in Science (preferred) or equivalent experience 3 -5 years equivalent experience in a chemistry laboratory setting Understanding of chemical structures and compounds management, hazard classification and chemical segregation techniques Knowledge of VWR?s products and services helpful Training in the following for those locations that require shipping: o 49 CFR 172.704 for DOT Hazardous Materials Regulation o 40 Hours OSHA o Emergency Response and Preparedness 80-hour course in Chemical Segregation and Chemical Science KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently) Conform to all customer requirements for background checks, health and safety issues, security clearances and medical checkups.
