JOB SUMMARY
The Sign Technician mounts, installs, removes, or replaces signs as needed, installs pavement markings on roadways, parking lots, and athletic courts also paints curbs according to specifications. Monitors and performs traffic control. Assist in mowing grass, trimming trees, bushes, and other various requirements. These duties are performed for public streets. The employee works independently in the field and is responsible for decision making requiring technical discretion, sound judgment, and familiarity with a variety of codes, ordinances, and construction methods. The employee works according to set procedures under direct supervision.

KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Safely operates tools and equipment in all types of weather, or conditions.The job may include morning, evening, weekend, holiday, split, or other work schedules.
Install traffic signs and ensures other signs are properly mounted.
Monitors and performs or assists in traffic control.
Keeps record of traffic reports and inventory of equipment.
Installs guard rails as needed.
Prepares equipment and materials for sign installs, maintenance, and repair; mixes concrete, measures and cuts metal poles, installs anchors, hand digs holes, makes up the signs on the poles, and removes old poles and signs.
Mows grass and trims tree branches and bushes.
Cleans, services, and maintains equipment use for daily operations.
Reports hazardous and dangerous conditions in and around the facility and streets, including incidents/accidents immediately.
Performs other related work as required.
Education and Experience
High school or GED (no experience), or sufficient education to read and write plus two years of experience.
Special Certifications and License
Valid Texas Driver's License.
Independence and Judgement
Minimal judgment; instructions, once established and defined, normally allow the job to be accomplished without direct and/or constant supervision; mostly routine work requiring that employee recognize obvious problems; situations outside the instructions are referred to the supervisor or lead worker.
Initiative and Ingenuity
Low chance for error because work is routine/repetitive/simple/reviewed carefully; standard procedures: not demanded to come up with creative solutions; refers anything unusual to supervisor.

Frequent contact with the public or other organizations; interactions may require obtaining cooperation of people; courtesy and tact are required when dealing with moderately difficult or sensitive issues.
Physical Demands
Light physical effort such as standing, lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, etc. Ability to exert up to 30-50lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.
Responsibility for Equipment and Property
Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office; use of a City vehicle.
Working Conditions
Fair inside or outside conditions; exposure to disagreeable conditions is brief or otherwise insignificant; space problems; only occasional situations that place the employee in a stressful environment.
Other Requirements
