Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation services to patients, family members, and staff to ensure fluent translation of all services, documents, requests and conversations

• Translate clinical and procedural documents by providing an oral and/or written translation into the language of the patient

• Ensure that information pertaining to the patient's services are accurately communicated. Assess the patient's/family's comprehension of all information provided and ensure that the treatment team, patient's/family's questions and concerns are appropriately addressed and documented.

• Assist employees in understanding cultural differences and how language barriers may impact patient care

• Apply knowledge of English and target language medical terminology, grammar and syntax when using active listening/comprehension, short memory retention techniques and verbal fluency to bi-directionally convey messages accurately and completely between the two languages

• Use correct grammar, spelling and terminology to translate, proofread and edit English and target language documents

• Sustain and prioritize work schedule while meeting quality and productivity standards

• Adhere to standards of the Company's Code of Business Conduct, policies, HIPAA and Corporate Compliance programs and appropriate professional practice standards and applicable state and federal laws including interpretation professional ethics and standards

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a formal program in medical interpreting and translation with medical interpretation certificate is preferred but not required. Applicant ideally should be in the path for Medical Interpreter Certification (e. Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40 hour accredited medical courses, etc.)

• Experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter with strong medical vocabulary preferred (including vocabulary of medical specialties, to interpret for our medical specialties departments)

• Demonstrated ability to interpret verbal and transcribe written medical and rehabilitative information in both the foreign language as well as English language

• Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity of cultural differences and the ability to work with diversity of cultural/socio-economic backgrounds

• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills; communicates effectively and professionally in verbal and written interactions while collaborating with colleagues, staff and clinicians across the organization

• Consistently treat everyone with courtesy, dignity, respect and professionalism

• Familiarity with the medical profession and its privacy laws (HIPAA) as well as other state and federals laws applied to medical interpreting

• Demonstrates strong organization skills and attention to detail

USD $20.00 / Hour
