If so, the City of Harrisonburg Public Works Department's Sign Graphics Designer & Fabricator role may be the right position for you!

The Sign Graphics Designer & Fabricator is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $23.70 - $26.07 per hour (equivalent to $49,296 - $54,225 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy.

As the Sign Graphics Designer & Fabricator, you'll:

• Receive work orders and verbal requests to design, create, and fabricate a variety of signs, including but not limited to banner signs, directional signs, facility signs, street signs, and traffic signs, using specialized graphics software and computer-driven plotting equipment;

• Proof, trim, sort, assemble, and distribute printed signage by cutting, weeding, taping, and preparing a variety of substrates, such as corrugated plastic, foam board, PVC, aluminum, and acrylic;

• Apply vinyl graphics to a variety of substrates;

• Operate a large-format printer and perform required maintenance and troubleshooting on printing and sign shop equipment;

• Utilize computer-aided graphics software and other applications to create sign designs, patterns, and lettering in accordance with City branding standards and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD);

• Monitor and conduct periodic inventory of sign shop materials and organize the workshop to maintain sufficient quantities of traffic-related signage for immediate use in the field;

• Assist in the installation of signs and application of pavement markings, as needed;

• Recommend and implement innovative sign and vinyl wrap designs for unique applications and consult with City staff when necessary to evaluate individual project needs;

• Maintain records, including but not limited to documentation of work performed and produced;

• Operate a city vehicle in the performance of job duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Associates degree with coursework in graphic design or a related field and moderate (1-3 years) experience in graphic design. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.

• Valid driver's license.
